The Preset’s If I Know You
by If I Know You represents one of the more opulent moments from the second album, Apocalypso, by Australian electro duo, The Presets. Built from a somber chord progression and poignant tale of bitterness and lessons learned, If I Know You echoes of lonely night drives, dancing in the forest and the feeling of gallantly marching away from a spiteful lover. To recreate the emotionally resonant atmosphere of the song on film, The Presets enlisted French director Eva Husson (who directed the acclaimed short for M83′s Kim and Jessie last year) to weave a poetic LA dream sequence of fire and dance.

Our latest video offering is No Show from our album, Superhappyfuntimesfriends. When I found out this old Japanese monster movie was in the public domain, I just had to fuck with it. Even though it’s trimmed down from 90 minutes to three, I don’t think the continuity of the film is that effected. The plot may in fact make more sense to certain people with this particular edit.
New single, The Bug, from Sydney band Cogel
Cogel have just released the music video for The Bug, the first single from their debut album, due out in March 2012. I’m picking up whatever poetic percussion they’re puttin’ down.
Wednesday April 6th marked a sad day in Australian music history. The Sydney indie boys of Red Riders have decided to part ways after eight years of rocking out. And while a sinking feeling entered my heart upon hearing that one of my favourite bands will no longer make music together, I wish them all the best. Read more

Banksy has taken a replica of a bust of an eighteenth century member of the Catholic hierarchy and added multi-coloured tiles to the face — pixelating it — as a comment on what he considers to be the Church’s cover-up. ‘I’m never sure who deserves to be put on a pedestal or crushed under one’, Banksy noted. Tattoo artist sued by ex-girlfriend for obscene design
Oh boy, this is so bizarre it could only be true. Apparently a Dayton, Ohio, tattoo artist has been slapped with a $100,000 lawsuit by his ex-girlfriend for tattooing an image of, erm, excrement with flies on her back rather than the scene from Narnia that she had requested. The reason? He’d recently found out that she had been cheating on him with one of his buddies. Damn! And here we were thinking this was the hot new look for trailer park trash crowd.

Artist Oliver Voss installed this sculpture of a giant, bathing woman in Hamburg’s Binnenalster, an artificial lake in the middle of the city. Some residents are baffled by it, but luckily for them, the installation isn’t permanent.
I ran a series of 80s nights in New York last year — showing cult 80s movies and playing classic cuts from that era of kitsch and spice — purely so I could spin After The Fire’s Der Kommissar over and over. Yessir, this was the future of music in 1983. Pity no one was listening.

The nice thing about black metal is that it’s so hard for it to be co-opted. Between its often extreme ideologies and its inherently abrasive sound, it’s hard to imagine anyone trying to sell you a pair of sneakers with it. Even as some bands like Dimmu Borgir and Cradle of Filth have wormed their way into the mainstream, the vast majority of black metal fans and bands out there are happy to stay in the filthy pits of the underground.
