Parque El Desafio, Gaiman, Argentina
In the south of Argentina, there’s a small town with an intriguing name and a proud history. Like most of Patagonia, Gaiman was settled by the Welsh and today, most of the locals still have cottage gardens and serve high-tea at 3pm. However, the best bit about Gaiman is unquestionably the eccentric outdoor art gallery, Parque El Desafio. The elderly owner originally built the garden to inspire his grandchildren, and everything is made from recycled or reincarnated rubbish — mostly tin cans and plastic bottles. Highlights include a mini Taj Mahal, a rainbow canopy made from flower-shaped plastic, and the wonderfully satirical and biting commentary.

For a seriously good summer holiday destination, it’s pretty hard to beat San Sebastian on Spain’s Atlantic coast. It’s got three divine beaches, hundreds of tapas bars (apparently more per square kilometre than any other city in the world), a vast selection of historical buildings and churches (if the urge to sightsee takes over), clubs, boutiques and countless festivals all year round. El Desafio is a fantastic place, isn’t it? I absolutely loved it – even if it’s a bit crazy! IIn fact, Gaiman is a pretty cool little town – especially if you like cakes and tea!!

Brooklyn-based illustrator Aya Kakeda has used a wide range of materials for her Yoshitomo Nara-esque images, but there’s something particularly compelling about her embroidered work. The constraints and distortions inherent in the medium suggests a struggle and a roughness not apparent in her other work and fits nicely with some of her folky subject matter and child-like narratives. Illustrator Dallas Clayton has just published an awesome book called, wait for it, An Awesome Book. It’s a ridiculously cute, heart-rending children’s book, encouraging kids and adults alike to never lose our senses of wonder and imagination (psst, it could make a great late gift idea!)
I have a weak spot for the work of New York illustrator You Byun. Her pastel, Miyazaki-esque landscapes populated with their saucer eyed creatures just make me swoon. It reminds me of several other well-known illustrators working today, but I feel that she is onto something spectacular that will simply continue to evolve until we’re all just utterly blown out of the water.
Kirk brings Molly to meet his family for a pool party but she doesn’t have her swim suit. Kirk, an average Joe, can’t believe his luck when gorgeous babe Molly falls for him even though he’s the first to admit She’s Out of My League. In cinemas April 1.

The Kevin Ayers record Joy of a Toy from 1969 was released by Harvest Records and sits somewhere between Nick Drake and The Byrds. A record slightly ahead of its time, it was filled with enough interesting and clever arrangements and instrumentation to never bore. Girl on a Swing is my favorite tune for the tremolo guitar.

hi! i´m from buenos aires but i usually go to patagonia an stay in Provincia de Chubut, were Gaiman is located… i´d never been seen “El desafío” until this summer and i believe is a hidden pearl in our country… anyway i think it´s important to say that “El desafío” (that you can translate like “the challenge”) also have other name: “parque jurásico inanimado” (” inanimate jurassic parck”) because of its two sphinxes maded of sheet that look like two t-rexs… spielberg, go home! jajajajaja
