Ze Frank’s iconic videoblog may be long dead, but he’s been plugging away, filling his little corner of the interweb with awesome stuff. His latest invention is a little voice-based face drawing toy that creates lines that differenciate according to the volume of the user’s voice.

I found this great animated short by Royal College of Art graduate John Kelly on zefrank.com. It has a great retro quality about it, like weird little cartoons I used to see as a kid on PBS. It’s also infuriatingly true to life.
Web 2.0 icon Ze Frank is currently soliciting audio recordings of people confessing their emotional pain. He will snip and edit the files into unrecognizable sounds and clips which he well then invite DJs and musicians to reassemble into full-on music. Much like the PostSecret project, Frank hopes to create something beautifully cathartic.
Ze Frank: That Makes Me Think Of on Time Magazine
Ze Frank is back, albeit in more restrained form, with his That Makes Me Think Of series of videos on the Time magazine website. As with The Show, his year-long videoblog which he updated daily between 2006 and 2007, the new series features Frank free-associating between various recent news bites, wrapping it all up in an irreverent way. Still, to get a better taste of the iconic blogger’s true capabilities, check out his recent Hard Times series of videos on YouTube and his website.

Films involving characters faced with an impossible choice never make easy viewing, an example being the Nick Cave Australian gem, The Proposition. A nightclub manager, played with understated power by Joaquin Phoenix, is the victim here, and you actually feel truly uncomfortable as his predicament unfolds. Set in the 1980s, We Own The Night shows a real nostalgia for that period — particularly in the costumes. Read more

I’m enjoying the writing on the recently launched The Epi-Cure blog, which discusses the ‘latest scientific studies on health and nutrition’, and features interviews with ‘expert scientists, dieticians, and nutritionists’. The site’s founder and editor, Michelle Grey, also runs tasty, healthy recipes from New York chef Benjamin Towill, including today’s installment: Stuffed Zucchini Flowers [above]. Hmmm hmm. Read more
I love Brooklyn band Durty Nanas. They were formed in 2005 and play street spaces, galleries, lofts, and block parties. So I guess they are the ‘real’ Bloc party.
