by Korean-born Okkyung Lee, who has found a niche amongst the regulars at John Zorn’s The Stone, makes intricate cello improvisations based on her classical and jazz training, following a path forged by the likes of Tom Cora, but veering off into her own stranger, noisier directions.

I just saw this installation called The Transfinite at the Park Ave Armory in New York. It’s like being put into an ocean of precise, meticulously planned data. Incredibly high-powered projectors shoot Ikeda’s visuals onto a 54 x 81 foot floor and a 54 x 40 foot wall, as speakers blast a perfectly synchonized musical piece. Read more

Tallest Man on Earth, the rasping Swedish folk singer-songwriter and one of the unsung heroes of 2008, recently recorded the beautiful song A Field of Birds, a nice adjunct to his summer album release, Shallow Grave. His sound is so loose and unmanicured, and carries a poignancy reminiscent of the rusty, early Bob Dylan.
