Golden Bear’s new EP, Everest
by Having played South By South West over the past couple of years, Golden Bear have just released a souped up new EP, Everest, which sees the Texan rock band playing together like they would at a rehearsal or a show. Says frontman Chris Gregory: ‘I was a little anxious about being able to approximate the sound of our live show in the first place, but I figured to hell with it-let’s give it a shot. And I’m glad we did. There were no endless nights of playing the same song 150 times, no overscrutinaztion, and in all honesty, no hitches in the plan whatsoever. It was loose, rowdy, and rewarding, just like our shows’. Artist Mick Burson paints a wall in Texas
In this video, Mick Burson paints a wall in Denton, Texas, that was inspired by the slums in Brazil. With no sketch, just a level, and a big paint budget, he was able to knock it out in a big three day weekend and make it to work on time Sunday night.
Ignacio Torres is a photographer I met in my hometown of Denton, Texas. It wasn’t until he moved to New York City, though, that we became friends. I had the honor of working a bit with him this past summer in New York, and through this realized just how unique and phenomenal he really is. He has gained an abundant amount of recognition this past year for his 3D moving GIF photos. And rightfully so. They’re incredible.

Filmmaker creates LEGO stop motion to propose to girlfriend
Now, this is one for the ages: back in 2010, Atlanta film-maker Walter Thompson created a jaw-dropping LEGO stop motion to propose to Nealey Dozier, his girlfriend of four years. The video took 22 hours of shooting and some 2,600 pictures to splice together, a small sacrifice to pay for years of happiness together. Right? Right! Oh, and she said yes. Bonus.

Being an Urban Quilter, I love all things alternacraft, especially when they mix in street art. So I was stoked to see some of Banksy’s images re-imagined as cross-stitch patterns. Princess Animal is San Francisco’s answer to urban knitters and crafters, and sells the Banksy kits.
Back in the day, New Zealand pop absurdists, Split Enz were the finest damn Australasian band around. This track, I Walk Away, off their final album — Spellbound — is their ultimate moment: a hefty dose of pure melodic majestry, wrapped around the aching lyrics and quirky arrangements of genius frontman, Neil Finn.

Wow! This song — More Childish Than In A Long Time — from Swedish teenage twins Taxi Taxi! just burst into my headphones like the first welcome glare of a mid-morning sunshine, stinging my ears wickedly with its coarse, repetitive beauty. The forlorn, introspective lyrics and melody tease and shimmer, sending a fleeting and not-so-subtle tap on the shoulder to hit repeat, repeat, and soak it all up again.
