Vasco Mourao

The most dense and intricate structures emerge from the hatch marks of Spanish illustrator, Vasco Mourao, who constructs entire cities swaying tenuously from the edge of cliffs and dangling from balloons in the sky. They are stark black and white worlds, possessed entirely of themselves.

Louisa Jenkinson’s black and white world

I love the sense of mystery and adventure in Australian artist Louisa Jenkinson’s illustrations: it’s fantastical in scope without ever weaving into outrageous fantasy in themes. [Discover more Australian artists on The Colour]

Kristopher Ho

It’s windy, cold, and raining out. On days like this, looking at the intricate work of artists like Kristopher Ho feels like re-reading an old book that you loved as a kid but forgot about in your more cynical adulthood. Read more

FuFu Frauenwahl

Berlin-based comic book artist/illustrator FuFu Frauenwahl has a classic style that really appeals to me. They remind me of the Tales from the Crypt and Heavy Metal comics I used to read late at night when I couldn’t sleep. His Mollusk Head character is pretty gnarly too. Read more

Ilana Kohn clothing

With a passion for design and a love for sewing, I’ve been creating clothing for myself and friends as far back as I can remember. I really relished the thought of being able to share my creations with a wider audience and take my passion to the next level. That said, this Summer marks the debut of my first collection for my clothing line, Ilana Kohn. Read more

Frederik Jurk

Despite his name, I’m guessing German illustrator Frederik Jurk must be a cool guy because his images, his limited palette and gorgeous textured line work are awesome.

Zach Paul

I was immediately taken with the work of California artist Zack Paul. Especially the images created on various bits of driftwood and found natural objects. The most perfect backdrop to his clean, geometric images.

The murkey, smeared paintings of Stef Driesen seem like what it might look like as you pass from this life to the next one: they hint at faded memories as well as utopias yet unrealised. Read more

Like many other kids who grew up in the 80s, I loved Knight Rider. I wish this Minimates toy version of KITT in super pursuit mode was available back then.

Oh man, this is good. If Jamie Lidell was born in any earlier era, he would have soul brother number one plastered all over his birth certificate.

I love the interesting lines and clever use of sustainable materials found in the Klein Bottle House, a holiday place in Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula. The architects, McBride Charles Ryan, based the design around the concept of the Klein Bottle, ‘a descriptive model of a surface developed by topological mathematicians’. Read more

The indie, electronic pop duo Plastic Operator paired up whilst studying audio production at London’s Westminster University. In 2004, they released their first three track EP. Their music reminds me of bands like The Fashion, Crystal Castles and Cut Copy.

This t-shirt, featuring 79 fictional weapons from movies, TV, video games, and comic books, is a really great way to get nerds to stare at your chest.

On this Virgin Mary HaloTech watch, the dial is a modern version of the nineteenth century art form of lithophanes, carved porcelain sheets that, when lit, deliver astoundingly detailed images. When the pusher is activated, the dial springs to life in 3D. The watch features a light-up dial, LED light, and afterglo effect. Read more
