|I’ve been reading this book called A Whole New Mind by Daniel Pink. It’s of the mindset that the right-brained thinkers are finally getting the respect they deserve and might even be the way of our future. We have an abundance of choice thanks to the left brain peeps, who have so graciously granted us a life of prosperity as the standard of living has risen steadily decade after decade. Yet, the paradox is that although being liberated by prosperity, somehow we are still not fulfilled by it. He puts it nicely when saying, ‘The most striking feature of contemporary culture is the unslaked craving for transcendence’. He claims creativity, story-telling and design will help us to find an emotional pull to fulfillment. And I must agree. We have too many choices these days and it takes an extra bit of magic to sell me that next little purchase of delight. A website by the name of Uncommon Goods seems to have an understanding of this concept, in the process bringing a little smile to my daily need for transcendence.

Los Angeles sister communicates with New York sister — texts, e-mails, conference calls, BBMs, IMs, Skype — using divine imagery to inspire a thought, memory or whatever resonates with the moment in time. Surging their way into our purpose-filled lives, this site offers a refreshing delight. A conversation without words could be considered a lost art, and when you combine that with two sisters lending their daily thoughts to each other, a smile resides. Not to mention that the images are fantastic.

“Black ink warlock” Justin Bartlett has done some of my favorite metal album covers of late, such as the one for Bohemian Grove’s Age of Retrogression and Pentemple’s self-titled record. His outsider-ish style reminds me a bit of the work of Rudimentary Peni frontman, Nick Blinko, but he has much more sophisticated sense of design and layout. Read more

The Presets are a Sydney-based electronic duo, consisting of Julian Hamilton and Kim Moyes. In September 2005 they released their debut album, Beams, to positive critical response. That same year Julian Hamilton and Kim Moyes also toured with The Dissociatives, which is co-fronted by Daniel Johns of Silverchair and Australian dance producer Paul Mac. Johns also played guitar on Presets single Cookie. Hamilton and Moyes are also members of Sydney instrumental group Prop.
