Poupees Russe’s Katarina tote
Lea Nguyen has designed a no excuse handbag, relieving us of that moment when we are at the grocery store and the clerk asks us if we need a plastic bag, only to realize we didn’t bring a handy, re-usable carrier. UGH! The label Poupees Russes, the French name for Russian babushka dolls, offers its first line — Katarina — with the Boria tote being this friendly accessory to your daily stroll. It’s cute, functional, comfortable and helping to save the earth, one less plastic bag at a time. Just the way we like it.

Pioneering Australian designer Kara Smith can definitely give Urban Originals a run for their money. She creates the most innovative handbags for those that truly want to stand out. Detailed with lovely pockets and vintage buttons, Smith’s retro inspired designs literally transform original vintage fabrics into ‘one-off’ clutches, handbags, totes and accessories. I’m in love with her clutches! But yes, if you missed her over the week end at the Blue Mountain’s Leura Village Fair, she’s stocked in Glebe and Sydney’s Todae store, as well as at a variety of online outlets.

Xbox 360 reinventing TV with Kinect Sesame Street TV
They just don’t make ‘em like they used to. Big Bird, Fozzie and the gang at Sesame Street team up with Microsoft to create a Kinect-based show interacting with the kiddies. Gets them off the couch and moving along with the shows. I want to play.

Illustrating some of the 24 hour Punjabi I would have gone to in the West Midlands (the home of AC/DC abroad), Sroop Sunar creates very distinctive and colourful work. I like the way it references colonial imagery and Indian culture, but brings them up to date. Read more
This awesome promo video for the Lost At E Minor site was created by our friends over at New York-based design studio, Lifelongfriendshipsociety. NASA has released some pretty amazing audio recordings of sounds from the moons of Saturn. The weirdest thing about them is that they actually sound like Theremin warbles and echoey whooshy sounds from ‘50s movies about space.
I am one of those typical New Yorkers who only wears black in winter. But this winter is different. With the economic crisis, and all the rest of the bad news, I have to fight the darkness in the world by wearing colors, and lots of them. Spanish designer Sybilla is known for her original designs and unique color schemes, but she is virtually unknown outside of her mother country and Japan, where she is super popular. Her younger brand Jocomomola is perfect for this gloomy winter. Read more
