The Naked Hearts
by The Naked Hearts formed in New York City in January, 2008. Their distinct poppy sound combines the grungy, stripped down style of early 90s bands such as The Breeders and The Lemonheads with the structured elegance of a Blonde Redhead or Autolux. Songwriters Amy Cooper and Noah Wheeler first met in New York while both playing the same club night. Soon after Noah joined Amy on the road promoting her second solo release and while on the road, they began writing songs together, recording them onto a Tascam 246 4-track. Hooray for old-school! In July 2008 they recorded These Knees, their debut EP, with producer and engineer Dan Long (Film School, The Jealous Girlfriends). The recording is set be released on 12-inch vinyl and as a digital download later this month.

Tattoo artist sued by ex-girlfriend for obscene design
Oh boy, this is so bizarre it could only be true. Apparently a Dayton, Ohio, tattoo artist has been slapped with a $100,000 lawsuit by his ex-girlfriend for tattooing an image of, erm, excrement with flies on her back rather than the scene from Narnia that she had requested. The reason? He’d recently found out that she had been cheating on him with one of his buddies. Damn! And here we were thinking this was the hot new look for trailer park trash crowd.

Luke Feldman is an Australian born illustrator and animator recently relocated to San Francisco due to work demands. ‘His work, both vector and ink illustrations, is a unique collection of bizarre creatures often surrounded by contrasting environments. Each piece is its own narrative’.
I found this beeeaaauuutiful Taylor guitar on consignment at a local mom n’ pop guitar store. As soon as I played it, I knew it was the one. It has a really warm sound, especially as Taylors go: great built-in electronics, easy action, and it’s just so purty.
Improv Everywhere strikes again with a spontaneous musical in a Los Angeles mall. Wireless microphones hooked up to the mall’s PA system ensured the feeding masses didn’t slip into Cinnabon-induced comas until after the show was over. Note especially the angry dude in sunglasses at about 2:51 — apparently he thinks nothing can ever top Rent.
This gourmet paint is made by only two dedicated paint makers without fillers, just pigment and oil, like it should be. There is only one store that sells it and it is run out of the Elisabeth Foundation for the Arts building in Chelsea, New York. They have a table set up there so you can play with and mix any of the colours together to see its effects. I usually go to pick one tube up and hang around asking questions to one half of the duo, Gail, and usually leave with five tubes, having learned a lot about the history and the process behind each colour.
Yes, Cuteoverload has been doing it for years, but can there really be too many sites devoted to cute animals? Fuck Yeah Puppies may not be original, but they have puppies. Lots and lots of puppies.
I don’t know a lot about The Sugars but I like what they do. Their sound is quite rockabilly but quite modern — like White Stripes. They put out a couple of indie singles and I’d really like to find some time to work with them.
Beautiful Kaos is a small boutique Sydney-based label, created by Paulo Brito. His collection is launching this Summer, with a range of boardies, singlets, tees and jackets. The entire range epitomizes Summer fun, my favourite time of year.
