New York-based eco-line Loomstate create the coolest tees made of organic cotton. Each printed t-shirt not only celebrates nature but is stylishly crafted, with contrasting stitching coupled with signature twisted side seams for a sleek fit. Sovereign Beck Silk 2009 collection
The Sovereign Beck Silk 2009 collection was conceived with the idea to give a new look to the hand-printed designs of their 2008 Cotton collection. Again collaborating with screen printer Polluted Eyeball, Sovereign Beck have translated four of their favorite patterns onto beautiful hand-picked silks. Limited in quantity to only twenty pieces for each design, every tie is bias cut and hand-stitched in New York City. Monkey and The BrownMan t-shirts
Eco-friendly fashion just got hotter with new Sydney label Monkey & the BrownMan. Whilst the name may confuse you, their threads won’t. Collections consist of a range of unisex basic tees, kids wear and accessories. Inspired by surf culture and contemporary design, Monkey & the BrownMan create all their clothing from 100 percent organic cotton.

If jeans were a drug, then Dr Denim’s would indubitably be my drug of choice. But better yet, our favourite Doc’s designs just keep getting cooler and, well … finer. I’m absolutely marvelled by their two latest fits: the Osmond (skinny fit) and Raymond (regular fit). While the Osmond features a bleached down wash in tight fits, the Raymond offers a second-hand look in grey scale denim. Suave, are they not?
I’ve been stocking up early in preparation for winter, so this debut knitwear line by British label A Minute Silence has arrived with much convenience. The splendid and flamboyantly progressive unisex collection by designer duo Danny Sangra and Lynn Cockburn features wonderfully knitted cardigans, jumpers, socks and even blankets rich in conflicting colours and crazy patterns.
Nathan DeYoung’s Windows and Mirrors
I am in total awe of Nathan DeYoung’s work from late last year titled Windows and Mirrors. This thoughtfully intelligent California-based artist pays particular observation to real life subjects around him, and the result is an inquisitive exploration into the human condition. Through inspirational conjured up characters at the tip of his paint brush, DeYoung is able to project his real life interpretations and analysis of those living around him onto canvas. Impressive, huh?

It must be in the jeans. The offspring of musical hedonists Richard and Linda Thompson, Teddy Thompson is one hell of a talented songwriter. Since his debut self-titled album came out in 2000, Thompson has been busy working on collaborative projects (including the ‘I’m Your Man’ tribute to Leonard Cohen) and solo recordings. His latest album, Up Front & Down Low, is a typically skittish and melodic collection of folk tinged melodrama. We spoke to him recently. Read more

Let them sing it for you is a web widget that allows you to type in a sentence which is then played back using the same words culled from a library of popular songs. For instance if you type the word “I” it will play Chris Isaak singing that word in the song Wicked Games. If a word cannot be found, you can enter a song which contains the missing word and expand the library.
I’ve had bloodsuckers on the mind lately, which is better than having them on the neck. But that’s a different story altogether, and not one I want to contemplate on this windswept Brooklyn evening with the moon hanging low and the faintest quiver of mid-Fall chill sending all little creatures scrurrying for the shelter of their urban brick palaces. Disregard the buzz that surrounds those other cupcake shops in New York City. Cheeks Bakery in Williamsburg houses the best cupcakes that I’ve eaten. The clean and understated decor extends to the menu, where being fancy doesn’t rule on the cupcake shelves. Cheeks offers, simply, vanilla and chocolate cupcakes with either vanilla or chocolate cream. But if you do want more, Cheeks has that as well, a limited selection of pies and cakes.
Whitest Boy Alive follow their own rules: no overdubs, no FX, and the music is always recorded live in one take. Fronted by Erlend Øye (of Kings Of Convenience notoriety), the Berlin collective produce a distinctive blend of minimalist melodies and pillowy grooves. And on the eleven tracks that constitute their new album, Rules, they convey one polite directive: please, move your body.
