P.I.W.O is a project created by a Polish student, Filip Rus. ‘Piwo’ in Polish means ‘Beer’ in English. Through an innovative building illumination system, they entertain university campuses and color the socialist architecture design of Polish buildings at the same time.

11,000 lanterns float into the sky in Poland
Here’s some haunting footage of the recent Midsummer celebrations in Pozan, Poland, where people released 11,000 floating lanterns into the sky. Apparently they were all made out of biodegradable sugar paper and compacted hay, so they didn’t do much environmental damage.

Dear Japan art event in New York
Come out to a gallery in Soho, New York, on Saturday afternoon and purchase art for your home for a good cause. The one evening event Dear Japan has been organized by a group of Japanese artists who live in New York. It features 170 illustrators and fine artists, and all the works are $200 or under. It’s a small portion of what most of the participating artists would normally sell their work for. Of course, I am donating for this good cause, too. Read more
BLOW UP: featuring Hanuka, Shimizu, Weber
Three illustrators from vastly different backgrounds — Sam Weber (Canada), Yuko Shimizu (Japan), and Tomer Hanuka (Israel) — are meeting at the crossroads of a distinct American aesthetic to examine their new-found artistic voices through personal mythologies, broken narratives and remixed identities. Each of the illustrators featured as part of BLOW UP (running at New York’s Society of Illustrators until October 16) created new works to be shown for the first time in this exhibition. Read more

Canada seems to be the land of amazing ambient metal duos. Montreal has Menace Ruine, and Toronto has Nadja, a formidable couple that churns out huge-sounding, bass and electronics-driven doom that draws your gaze up towards the stars just as old cathedral ceilings humble the faithful and make them think of the Almighty.

Two of the nicest dudes I’ve ever met own and design the ridiculously cool clothing line, Kane & Unke. It’s pretty much all I have in my closet. They used to be sold exclusively at Metropark, but have recently fired up their own online store which I’m told will be up and running around July.

The return of the Brionvega rr226
Italian brand Brionvega has resurrected the classy Radiofonografio piece first created in 1965. The updated version is just like the original turntable/radio unit, but also has a CD/DVD player.
Pitched as ‘Ulterior Motives in Contemporary Art’, Disorder Disorder is running until November 14 at Penrith Regional Gallery. It’ll be well worth the trip out west of Sydney: the Australian, Japanese, American and European cast reads like a warriors of street art roundup and includes Mike Giant, Ed Templeton, Anthony Lister [artwork above], Ozzie Wright, and Jonathan Zawada.
