Crimea X’s Secret Playlist

Crimea X is the coming together of two offbeat, disparate characters, DJ Rocca (Ajello, Super Sonic Lovers, Maffia Sound System) and Jukka Reverberi from 90s Italian glam cult rockers, Giardini di Mirò, who have often have been compared with the sound of Mogwai, Arab Strap, and Godspeed You! Black Emperor. We asked them about their favourite music and they started with The Smiths song, Ask [listen below] ‘I saw them playing live on Italian TV. It was during the 80s when I was extremely young, and I’ve never stopped listening to this song’. Read the rest of Crimea X’s Secret Playlist.

SPOD- Superfrenz. In fact, I hope all 50 of the cds are SPOD. Then I would stand in a circle of cd players and play them all a few seconds out of sync with each other. That’s the only way to listen to SPOD.

the new Killers Cd :)

Patrick said | 4 December, 2008

Well it says a stack of new CD’s, but can that just mean that its a stack of CD’s that are still sealed, but came out a while ago. If that’s permissible, then I have lost my copy of “The Village Green Preservation Society,” by the Kinks, and have been missing it quite a bit. If it must be new, then I would love to see a copy of that new Kanye album that has nothing to do with the education theme. Even if its not as slick as his other stuff, he is still one fly musician.

Anyone else have the problem of going to a record store and not being able to think of one artist you like…hmmm. Today I am curious to hear some more Fleet Foxes, do all their songs sound so old?

artgirl said | 17 December, 2008

i missed most of the music in the 80s due to being otherwise occupied (are you intrigued?). so any really good music of the 80s would be great. And, since you don’t know what you don’t know, i’d be very happy with any really, really good music that i don’t know about.
how’s that for covering my bases?

Rafael Antunes said | 17 December, 2008

Instead of demolishing the old Paddington Reservoir, architects TZG have incorporated into the design a new outdoor public garden in Paddington, Sydney. The results are stunning, with the nineteenth century structures providing an amazing starting point. Looking less like a garden and more like an overgrown ancient city, with the remnants of historic walls and vaults, this new public space is well worth frequent visits.

I don’t know if it’s the name, the relaxed look, or the attitude that just don’t sit too well with authority, but something about New York based label Sophomore has got us reminiscing about the good old days. Their current collection has boys and girls getting back-to-basics. Think jersey sweats and loose tees, mixed with yoke necks, caplet sleeves and tapered waists. And you know what that means? The search for the perfect white tee and the ultimate summer singlet is over. If that’s not enough to get you inspired, pull out your denim, pop on some 1970s vintage Jodie Foster, and get ready to channel some Lower East Side cred.

People tend to think we illustrators carry around our sketchbooks everywhere. A confession: I don’t. That is one of the reason why I love looking at other illustrator’s sketchbooks. Virginia-based Tin Salamunic’s sketchbook tells me a bit about an everyday life in Richmond. And his obsession for cars. Read more

I’m really excited about the Melbourne band Plug-in City. They remind me of Belle & Sebastian, The Kooks and Cut Copy all in one. What more can us New Yorkers ask for?

No wave is alive and well, if Brooklyn duo Talk Normal are any indication. Drummer Andrya Ambro keeps things cohesive with surprisingly precise percussion, occasionally banging on such things as an electric guitar and an old iron pipe rigged with contact mics, while guitarist Sarah Register coaxes some unnerving and discordant noises from her axe and array of pedals. The two take turns shouting abstract and absurdist lyrics with voices like hi-tech valkyries from a futurist nightmare.

Forget battery powered vehicles. Cars made from ice are the future of transportation: no pollution, no honking horns, no painful rap music blasting out of souped up stereos. And if they melt, they melt. You just swim the rest of the way down the slipstream.
