W stickers on the Upper West Side
I saw these W faces stuck onto the movie poster of W on the Upper West Side of New York. They’re so cool looking, I just had to take a photo.

I love the dramatically flecked colored tones and sense of playful discontent about the poster artwork of Vancouver-based designer, Dennis Boyle. Of this series, he says: ‘They are different social messages that specifically use typography — or in some cases, graphics — as the main tool for communication’. Indeed. Recent MICA illustration graduate, Kali Ciesemier posseses a particularly bold and versatile sensibility. She is clearly having a blast experimenting with different styles which ought to appeal to a wide range of clients. I particularly enjoy her poster section where she explores everything from textured pen and ink, to clean digital lines – all to extraordinary results. Having already illustrated projects from theater sets, to posters, to editorial, Ciesemier has hit the ground running having only graduated this May. With her wide range, it will be exciting to see how defines her work in the successful years ahead.
Dysfunctional Families stickers
If you’re a driver or passenger, it’s getting that way that probably one in ten cars you pass have a ‘my family tribe’ (or whatever they’re called) sticker plastered on the driver’s rear windscreen. Seeing them daily now, I’m beginning to wonder why is it that these are becoming so popular and a social phenomena. A lot of opinions are out there on whether they’re liked or disliked, but opinion’s are one thing. I prefer to show some action. Hence, I decided to design my own range of Dysfunctional Families stickers. Read more

Dear Japan art event in New York
Come out to a gallery in Soho, New York, on Saturday afternoon and purchase art for your home for a good cause. The one evening event Dear Japan has been organized by a group of Japanese artists who live in New York. It features 170 illustrators and fine artists, and all the works are $200 or under. It’s a small portion of what most of the participating artists would normally sell their work for. Of course, I am donating for this good cause, too. Read more

Pickle Hut was designed by architect Dan Hoffman and The Cranbrook Architectural Office. It is a place where the children of Brookside School can play, recite stories and dream. Set up for children to enter into this mysterious U-Shape building, the Pickle Hut offers up a little hub of sanctuary in order to let their imaginations fly. If only I had such a magical edifice to call my own and run to when head nun, Sister Mary, was on one of her many Catholic tirades. Eek! [photo by Paul Hitz]
