Pause to Begin
|Our friends over at the inspiring blogzine, Flak Photo, which features ‘work from an international community, promoting interesting visual approaches to seeing the world and celebrating the art of exhibiting quality photography online’ have teamed up with David Wright and Ethan Jones to show a selection of images [including the one above by Alejandro Cartagena] from the photographic book, Pause, to Begin. The project places an emphasis on the ‘process of art-making and art-thinking in the twenty-first century’ and Flak Photo will be doing a daily feature of each Pause, to Begin Photographer up until October 31st. Where to start with Z-Trip? Shepard Fairey propped him on this site a few weeks back, but let’s face it: the guy is worth a double post. He’s the king of the mash-up, a dance floor master, and the humblest guy you’ll meet. If you haven’t heard of him (unlikely), then go to his website right now and download his free mixes. He deejayed a show for us in 2000, right when his breakout CD, Uneasy Listening, dropped and I was floored. Who has the audacity to mix a Pat Benatar beat with Public Enemy vocals? This guy.
I finally got my copy of Play Pen: New Children’s Book Illustration by Martin Salisbury in the mail today and was immediately taken by the gorgeous illustration on the cover. Marc Boutavant! I flipped to the pages featuring his work and I couldn’t be more smitten by his colorful, fantastically playful, and positively charming illustrations.
Here’s another commercial building, and no doubt a nice one too. But just another commercial building. Yet there is something different here and it’s in the materials used. The cladding is a fibre-reinforced polymer, or a FRP, and has a finish similar to that of a car. Read more
