Sean Kelly’s Bucket ‘O’ Thought

We asked Sean Kelly, the Melbourne-based creative force behind the artistic Bucket ‘o’ Thought website, where he takes his inspiration from: ‘The great big mess that is Human Culture. I’m currently reading The Assassins’ Gate: America in Iraq by George Packer, as well as In the Time of Madness: Indonesia on the Edge of Chaos. I’ve been watching Big Lebowski, Lost Highway and Drunken Master — which I rate highly, and exploring the Transmetropolitan comic books’.

Haunted House Rock art exhibition in Sydney

John D-C is a Sydney-based graphic artist, print maker and toy customizer. His exhibition, Haunted House Rock, showing between November 19 and December 14 at Sweets Workshop Shop in Summer Hill, is a hideously, abominable creation, monstrously mashing two of the artist’s favorite subjects: The Monsters of Popular Culture and The Golden Age of Rock and Roll. The exhibition features limited edition giclée prints and posters, gocco prints, and customised toys. Read more

Superhero Amigurumi: knits for nerds

Iron Man, Wonder Woman, the X-Men, Doctor Who and Frodo never looked so cute! These soft, adorable, and delightfully geeky ‘amigurumi’ (Japanese miniature knit dolls) created by Lady Lindsay make a sweet gift for the comic fan or movie buff in your world, even if that person is you. Or me — I’ll take Batman and The Joker for the win. Read more

Star Wars Uncut: a fully crowdsourced version of Episode IV

The project of creative technologist, Casey Pugh, this full length version of the George Lucas masterpiece was created from multiple 15 second segments recreated from the original movie and submitted by thousands of Star Wars fans, which were then spliced together by editor Aaron Valdez to form the final product. Genius, as both a commentary on contemporary pop culture trends (there are references to LEGO, stop motion, memes and the like) and on the power of tapping your audience for quality material.

Filmmaker creates LEGO stop motion to propose to girlfriend

Now, this is one for the ages: back in 2010, Atlanta film-maker Walter Thompson created a jaw-dropping LEGO stop motion to propose to Nealey Dozier, his girlfriend of four years. The video took 22 hours of shooting and some 2,600 pictures to splice together, a small sacrifice to pay for years of happiness together. Right? Right! Oh, and she said yes. Bonus.

Alex Gertschen and Felix Meier are two Swiss photographers that have come up with one of the coolest staged photography series I have seen in a while. They took thirteen women, then styled and decorated them with everyday objects, each photo telling its own story. True poetry in images. Read more

I was rulking (half-run; half-walk) through the inner city a little while back, killing time and thoughts with mindless banter (yes, one way conversations have their benefits) when I noticed a grown man crying hysterically on the opposite side of the road to me. Read more

This Purple House for Pembrokeshire represents an unconscious and personal trip into the Norman legacy during the Middle Ages, aiming to find a lost sense. What were the forgotten exchanges between England, Wales, Ireland and the Mediterranean shorelines? Read more

I don’t intend on tempting any grape cravings which some borderline AAs may be experiencing, but everyone deserves some red after a long day. Drop of the Day is an easy way to receive fantastic quality wine at an extremely competitive price. Sure there are places online that offer cheaper alternatives, but Drop of the Day offers quality wine that pleases your wallet and your taste buds, too. Better yet, there is a new drop available to choose from each day for around AU$9 per bottle. Hmmm, I recommend you go for the blends.

Macedônian brutal doom outfit Potop, whose name means ‘flood’ in Polish, is one of the most anguished, despairing, dirty, hateful bands of the genre since Burning Witch. Their down-tuned, down-tempo sludge is virulently anti-life, oozing out of the speakers like poison gas. Read more

Baltimore Mural by Josh Van Horne

My friend Josh Van Horne, a local Baltimore artist, did this amazing mural in our neighborhood that depicts the history of this warehouse-laden area.
