Brandon Boyd’s ectoplasm
I really love the mystery in Brandon Boyd’s new artwork. Ectoplasm, the theme of his latest solo exhibit, is known in popular culture as a substance produced by physical mediums when in a trance state. But it’s not every day that spiritual Ghostbuster slime gets splashed on canvas. ‘It seems my fascination with the all things gooey and surreal has birthed into a dozen or so new paintings revolving around that touchy and occult fringed topic’, he says. Through alternating brush strokes, intermediate colours, exquisite lines and multiple mediums, Boyd fantastically communicates imaginative and energetic paintings that allow your spirit to escape into a wonderland of bliss. Hugo Ball reciting the Dadaist poem Karawane
This fine example of ‘oddness in action’ is this photo of a guy named Hugo Ball elaborately reciting a poem called Karawane. Hugo Ball, Hans Arp, Tristan Tzara und Marcel Janco were the founders of the famous Cabaret Voltaire in Zurich (Switzerland) which is known to be “the cradle of dadaism”. Dadaism was a cultural movement that involved visual arts, literature, poetry, theatre and graphic design. Read more

Think classic highlighter pink hair with a blunt cut, flamboyant makeup and Minaj’s signature Barbie necklace. All proceed of the doll’s auction will benefit Project Angel Food, an organisation that works to provide food for people affected by HIV and AIDS.

Shelby Fischer is a mixed media artist living in Central Virginia. I’ve spent a good deal of time in Nashville lately and had the opportunity to eat in some delicious restaurants there. Meat and threes, Thai, Greek, and more. But topping them all was Mas Tacos. They use deep fried avocados. And the best part is, they have a Winnebago serving it up all over the city.
Sparks’ album Kimono My House is a demented mix of hard rock, pop, glam, new wave, and baroque pop. Why this record never caught on in the States I’ll never know. The songs will get stuck in your head and prevent you from sleeping. Oh yeah, and the keyboard player has a nice mustache too, as evidenced by this track above — This Town Ain’t Big Enough.
French design dynamo Jean-Marie Massaud has created a Manned Cloud. A cruise airship with a hotel for 40 passengers and 15 staff, Massaud worked with the Office National d’Etudes et de Recherche Aérospatiale in this proposal. Read more
The Mystic Lady Tumblr is filled with a lot of, what seems to be, found images. Whether its her prolific collection of National Geographic scans, or even the images that she reblogs, she has impeccable taste and has created an amazing aesthetic.
‘I have been trying to go with my whims. Fuck it, let’s make an iPod album’. This statement from Team Genius leader Drew Hermiller was the jumping off point in the creation of the band’s debut self-titled full-length album, one of the most interesting and eclectic pop records of the year. ‘Basically it’s a reaction to the modern way music is consumed and listened to’, Hermiller says. ‘The idea of an album with a focused sound and a complete statement kind of gets lost now-a-days. Everyone shuffles around, so I thought “why not write an album that does the same thing?” Luckily, the band did an awesome job of keeping up with it’.
