Fashion photographer Melvin Sokolsky’s works from 1960s are still fresh, timeless and so inspiring. Or should I say that they look newer than what’s out there in fashion photography world now? Ah, the world before Photoshop.

New website for fashion photographer Guy Bourdin
This was the first site dedicated to the one of the masters of fashion photography, Guy Bourdin, who worked French Vogue for almost 30 years. Before it, there was literally only three of his pictures on the internet and it looked as if he had been totally forgotten. Now it seems he is more famous than when he was alive. My favourite photos have always been the shoe campaigns he shot over many years for Charles Jourdan. Read more

Dear Japan art event in New York
Come out to a gallery in Soho, New York, on Saturday afternoon and purchase art for your home for a good cause. The one evening event Dear Japan has been organized by a group of Japanese artists who live in New York. It features 170 illustrators and fine artists, and all the works are $200 or under. It’s a small portion of what most of the participating artists would normally sell their work for. Of course, I am donating for this good cause, too. Read more

This clip had such an impact on me when it first came out, back in the day. There’s just something so poignant about the idea that some people you pass on the street everyday have a little bit more insight into their world — our world — than we could ever imagine. D’espresso is a coffee shop located on New York’s Lower East Side. The walls are covered in tiles with pictures of books on them, giving the illusion that the space is tilted. Designed by Nema Workshop..
Illustrator and artist John Malloy has been working on a graphic novel called Channel One and, without wanting to sound too much like Paris Hilton, it’s looking pretty damn hot. Update! As of July 2009, John Malloy has aborted the graphic novel Channel One to focus more on other projects, including his autobiographical graphic novel, Queasy. Stay tuned for details. Read more

What to wear to my openings is always a difficult one. Should I dress-up or wear the paint stained clothing worn producing the work? This time my problem was solved quickly as I discovered the perfect dress from A Name Is A Label. Their pieces have a sculptural appearance, constructed predominantly from second-hand clothing. The label is about ethical, new-century awareness.

In 2008, graphic designer Becky Edgington and illustrator Sarah Beetson created two limited-edition packs of playing cards featuring images from Beetson’s exhibition, 50 Bucks: Bring On The Sluts. The images were selected from almost 500 small artworks created on moleskine paper, inspired by vintage pornography and a trip to Japan. Read more

Your comment “Or should I say that they look newer than what’s out there in fashion photography world now?” I love the fact you can see it in my fathers work as he was man with new ideas then and now. Most of the photographers out there have been reusing his original ideas for there work for years. Not to say one should be inspired but to copy without expanding on the original vision is a true shame. Also for those that are not aware Melvin Sokolsky has a new book “Archive” it can been seen at amazon.com.
