Nagi Noda: a tribute
As we posted last week, famed Japanese pop singer and director Nagi Noda recently passed away due to complications during surgery for injuries she sustained in a traffic accident last year. She was only 35. Known for her quirky music videos, bizarre short films (involving weird poodle people and other anthropomorphic creatures), and the amazing album covers she designed, Noda will be sorely missed by the international art community, which can only wonder what more amazing weirdness she would have come up with in the years to come.

My roommate is on a big Star Trek kick, re-watching the entire original series. I forgot how amazing and progressive and ahead-of-its-time it was. California-based artist Cheeming Boey makes super-wowza drawings on styrofoam coffee cups. He also keeps a web comic documenting his daily life that is at times hilarious at others rather touching. He reminds me of my friend Jon from high school. Read more

Oh man, what I wouldn’t give to be able to sing like Neil Finn. His voice rasps with all the sincerity and integrity of a thousand heartfelt melodies. Heck, I’d probably trade my prized collection of Archie comics for just the chorus on this song. Driving Me Mad? You betcha(dupa). This man is a treasure. Bow low indeed.
TheStar69 track So What Is The News is the very personification of great pop. In fact, it takes bits and pieces of the best music the The Cult, Hall & Oates and The Steve Miller Band ever recorded and messes it up with a well-honed, Scottish sense of mischief. We like.
