Gregory Jacobsen’s grotesque paintings are disturbed reinterpretations of classical themes and compositions, the product of a tortured imagination that smears the distinctions between the sexual and the scatological, the beautiful and the perverse. Smothered in fleshy and fetid pinks and browns, Jacobsen creates a world that his band, Lovely Little Girls, might inhabit, where still-lifes and tableau’s of the past have sprouted mold and maggots.
