Teddy Thompson’s In My Arms

Teddy Thompson’s fourth album is the reason why I have been ignoring this year’s other new releases. I Was Told There’d Be Cake

Full-time writer, part-time maker of dioramas, New Yorker Sloane Crosley has released a collection of her witty essays entitled I Was Told There’d Be Cake. Recounting tales of plastic pony collections, wanting to raise her unborn kids in Belgium, and locking herself out of her apartment twice in one day, Crosley’s stories will make you think of Larry David if he was a cute thirty year-old woman. No wonder HBO snapped up the rights to the book.

I love the bold colours and cheeky gaping aesthetic in the work of Sydney-based artist and designer, Finlay Duggan. She creates awesome masks imbued with wide-eyed menace, and her illustration work wouldn’t be out of place plastered across the giant walls of a disused Brooklyn factory. Respect. Read more

Our bass player bought a Hamboards longboard for the Summer and, man, it looks cool. It’s really old school and a very smooth ride. It makes Finland feel like California for a while. Hamboards is a family business with a loveable DIY-attitude.

We spoke to Dopepope about his latest Metal Man Project: ‘In the fifth grade, I drew a comic called Metal Man about a humanoid robot that went crazy and pulled knives on people. It’s the most ridiculous thing ever. I was a kid! Anyway, I found the artwork and simply traced the head and the logo exactly as I had them and fell in love with the iconic shapes they’ve created’. MIIIIIIKKKKKKKKEEE SNNNNNNOOOOWWW. Well, actually, Miike Snow. While everyone is obsessed with his track Animal, I’m loving his track Black and Blue from his new self-titled album.

On this Virgin Mary HaloTech watch, the dial is a modern version of the nineteenth century art form of lithophanes, carved porcelain sheets that, when lit, deliver astoundingly detailed images. When the pusher is activated, the dial springs to life in 3D. The watch features a light-up dial, LED light, and afterglo effect.
