Ryan Heshka
I just adore the retro, colorful paintings of Vancouver illustrator Ryan Heshka. Teeming with curvacious bombshells and sci-fi monsters running amok, Heshka most certainly has the retro B-movie aesthetic down to an artform. As an added bonus, Heshka even dedicates a section of his portfolio to his childhood drawings. This guy clearly had skills from the get-go.

Despite his name, I’m guessing German illustrator Frederik Jurk must be a cool guy because his images, his limited palette and gorgeous textured line work are awesome.
I was immediately taken with the work of California artist Zack Paul. Especially the images created on various bits of driftwood and found natural objects. The most perfect backdrop to his clean, geometric images.

Not a lot of architecture firms think a lot about the demolition of old houses unless it’s as a means to make way for new buildings, but Hutchinson and Maul of Seattle drilled holes in condemned farmhouses, sometimes inserting tinted acrylic rods in them, creating beautiful displays of light as the sun streamed in and giving the structures a flourish of renewed life before their ultimate destruction. Films involving characters faced with an impossible choice never make easy viewing, an example being the Nick Cave Australian gem, The Proposition. A nightclub manager, played with understated power by Joaquin Phoenix, is the victim here, and you actually feel truly uncomfortable as his predicament unfolds. Australian-born creative, Marc Newson, is considered to be one of the most influential designers of the past few decades. Having originally studied jewellery and sculpture at Sydney College of the Arts, ‘he started experimenting with furniture design as a student and, after graduating in 1984, was awarded a grant from the Australian Crafts Council, and staged an exhibition — featuring the Lockheed Lounge — at the Roslyn Oxley Gallery in Sydney’.
