Jenny Morsell sharpens her pencils
by We checked in with Swedish illustrator Jenny Mortsell recently and asked her whether her work space was strictly conducive to productivity, or inspiration, or both? ‘The biggest pro is that it is a method for me to get dressed before noon, as opposed to when I used to work from home. Even though it is one of the few privileges you have as a freelancer to get properly dressed whenever you want, it’s nice to look presentable to other people once in a while. It’s practical in the way that I have my scanner, printer, and cinema display, which I need for work, there, and inspiring in the sense that I share it with some fantastic people: Sara Teleman, Erica Jacobsson, Bo Lundberg, Otto Degerman, Jens Magnusson, Jan Cafourek, Johan Lindh and Sabina Wroblewski-Gustrin. Because of them, it is also a much more organized place than I could ever manage to maintain by myself, which helps if you want to get work done instead of cleaning up after your latest experiments’.

Rafal Milach’s Black Sea Of Concrete series
Of his series, Black Sea Of Concrete, Polish photographer, Rafal Milach says: ‘Eight photographers from Sputnik Photos collective were asked to cover contemporary Ukraine. Some got particular assignments, but I was free to choose the topic. As I knew I would be working in winter, I decided to go to the Black Sea. I wanted to have raw landscapes and real people. It was the only time of the year when I was able to avoid the tourist facade. The other reason why I picked the Black Sea coast was the fact that, for many years, it was a place where the entire Soviet Union went for summer holidays. Since the Orange Revolution in 2004, Ukraine has been an independent country, but still, very often, people are not able to detach it from its Soviet past. You can feel that strange mixture by the Black Sea coast’. Read more

In the wake of America’s historic presidential election, nearly two years of divisive campaigning, and eight years of a controversial administration, the nation is in desperate need of healing. Beloved Internet personality Ze Frank started From 58 to 42 with Love where contributors use their webcams to post messages reaching out to the side of the country that didn’t vote for their guy. It’s saccharine at times, and there are one or two borderline nasty posts from people that don’t seem completely onboard with the project’s objective. But overall, it’s pretty effective and moving. I’ll admit I needed a couple tissues while reading it.

Almanac Market in Philadelphia is slightly pricey, but you definitely get what you pay for. Offering fantastic bread, cheeses, produce, and cured meats such as sopressata and pepperoni, it was a great pit stop when my band played in town, and definitely more economical and tasty than hitting a greasy spoon for road snacks.
