Wired: California uses more gas than China
Wired just published a great article asserting that despite all the uproar over China’s consumption of fossil fuels, the rapidly developing nation still uses less gas than California alone.

Abandoned fake Disneyland in China
A decade ago, work began on a Disneyland rip-off amusement park near the Great Wall of China outside Beijing. As per many development projects in China, disputes over property prices between government officials and local farmers caused the construction of Wonderland to grind to a halt, and it’s been sitting half-built and falling into ruin ever since. We’ve all seen those iconic Jesus Christ, Osama Bin Laden, Queen Elizabeth II and the suicide bomber CUPCO dolls floating around the world. Now Western Australia’s ingenious artist Luke Temby, aka CUPCO, has invited 100 international artists to showcase their own creative interpretation of CUPCO dolls here in Australia. The doll exhibition will open at the Damien Minton Gallery in Redfern, Sydney on December 16 and carry on until December 22. All 100 dolls will be on sale and the proceeds will help out our Congolese sisters and children affected by war. If you can’t hold out until the party launch, check out the dolls on Temby’s FlickR page.
In late 80s and early 90s, the Illustrated Laser Ray and futuristic grids aesthetic was a sensation, years before it began to diminish abruptly. The graduate exhibition of third year graphic design students at Sydney’s Design Centre is called 342 Seconds and relates to the estimated time required to view the show. Only the French can get away with the sort of effete, gothic electropop that Position Parallele make. It’s hard to tell if the duo’s deadpan is supposed to be funny or not, but it’s pretty hard not to pull some angular, jerky dance moves when listening to their New Order-ish tunes.
We love the range of ultra-stylish ties created by New York-based designers, Ryan Sovereign and William Beck. They’re both graduates of the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design, majoring in Industrial Design and Sculpture respectively, and have been long time collaborators both musically and visually.
