Honey Ryder

Many people would suggest that business and pleasure don’t mix, especially in the music industry. However, Honey Ryder defy tradition, turning the old-fashioned business model on its head and successfully combining the two. The London-based duo — Martyn Shone and Lindsay O’ Mahony — have honed their writing and performing skills over the last two years. Their debut single, Numb, one of the darker tracks on a beautifully crafted debut album Rising Up, engages the listener through an anthemic rock sound that underlines the band’s ear for melody. The album, produced by Goldust (Bryan Adams, Natasha Bedingfield) and mixed by Brad Gilderman, (Madonna, Outkast) and Bob Kraushaar (Pet Shop Boys, Robbie Williams), will be released digitally through Honey Ryder Music on July 28.

Chilly Water: a new song from More Like Trees

I have watched in awe at the buzz that this band has generated explode like wildfire across the music scene in London. The main players in this constantly evolving unit are a mesmerizing fuse of drum & bass, flamenco, and dare I say it, indie. A regular in The Local Posse sessions, they are a collaborative delight who nail it time and time again on stage.

Bird of Youth’s Bombs Away single

Bird of Youth have announced the May 24 release of their debut album, Defender. Fronted by Beth Wawerna, Bird of Youth have spent the past year carving out a space for themselves in the crowded waters of Brooklyn’s indie rock ocean, pairing thoughtful and ornate lyricism with intricate pop songcraft.

Chris Berens

Hailing from The Netherlands, Chris Berens works predominantly with ink, varnish and acrylic. Although, by his own admission, his paintings are not made with a particular message in mind, he works from recollection to create his very personal and intimate images. ‘I treat every painting as I would a diary’, he says, ‘in which I paint my thoughts and feelings’.

Are you into wide angles? Then you might want to check out the new Paul Smith limited edition Fisheye No2 camera. Paul Smith collaborated with Lomography cameras to make this special item, which has a 180 degree wide-angle view and amazing fish-eye barrel distortion. Included is a bulb setting for long exposures and a switch for multiple exposures on the same frame. You also have the ability to use hotshoe flash or the built in flash. The body of the camera is attractive in a fashion sense with its metal accents and the Paul Smith signature multi-colored stripes.

Speck fitted case for iPhone 3G

Here’s one for all you tech savvy fashionistas. Outfit your iPhone 3G in form-fit style with a case from Speck. The lightweight, snap-together design lets you instantly make your iPhone 3G a fashion statement, while the soft fabric provides added comfort and extra grip in hand. Personally, I’m digging the plaid. But maybe that’s just because it’s getting chilly outside.

The very talented Jess Snow, the first video artist to be featured by Female Persuasion — the original site for provocative and political female artists — has created this ethereal short video for Lost At E Minor. I used to have a Livejournal. I remember when blogging was so much more earnest and emo back in the mid-Aughts. Embarrassing. Good to know there are people like out_4_pizza, who use their blogs to post amazing digital art rather than every detail of their personal lives. Read more

These very sweet folks from Seattle supported Broken Social Scene on our last American dates of the Spirit IF tour. Although they haven’t quite hit their stride as a live outfit, the tunes from songwriter Grant Olsen have some very lovely moments that fall somewhere between Velvet Underground and The Everly Brothers. I think Arthur and Yu could take over from where Grandaddy left off, though with better songs. No offense to Grandaddy.

My band, Bloody Panda, used to perform on stage wearing executioner hoods. We’ve stopped doing that, but I’m going to suggest that we all wear panda hat/scarves.
