Jörn Kaspuhl’s vibrant illustrations
Jörn Kaspuhl was born and raised in Stade in Northern Germany. In 2002, he moved to Hamburg and started the education in illustration at the University of Applied Sciences (expected graduation later this year). He has been working as a freelance illustrator since the summer of 2006.

Tina Berning exhibition at Andres Binder Gallery
The Andreas Binder gallery in Munchen, Germany, is showing an exhibition of works by the artist Tina Berning. In her latest series, she investigates the connections between conditioned aesthetics and individual self-determination. Captured on found paper, Berning liberates what is locked inside the frozen masks of the lifestyle and consciousness industry. She creates both a subjective and critical view of the human body, its shortcomings, and its basic affinity for beauty. Streaks of color are laid over fine outlines, bodies fall, spots and spaces overlay the transparent characters. The exhibition runs between January 23rd and March 7th. Read more
German illustrator Christian Lindemann works as a freelance illustrator and graphic designer for clients such as Ebay, DHL, Yellostrom, Mitsubishi and TNT. He was inspired to take on graphic design as a result of his life-long passion for drawing and has since developed his own unique style.
Heiko Windisch’s spacey illustrations
The projects that self-taught German designer Heiko Windisch works on are varied, but his graphic illustration style remains unified, refreshing in the often jack-of-all-trades illustration business. He creates 2D and 3D art and sculptures called Dioramas for exhibitions, magazines, books, CD sleeves, T-shirts and print. Read more

I have a great admiration for hand-screen printing. It reminds me of my days back at college studying art when life was a lot easier and dreams were actually attainable aspirations. Arhhh! Chicago-based Dan Grzeca works with a traditional style of print, designing old-school show posters that are crisp, clean and very appealing. I’ve been told that he will be releasing 52 new works this year, so get ready for the deluge.
French design dynamo Jean-Marie Massaud has created a Manned Cloud. A cruise airship with a hotel for 40 passengers and 15 staff, Massaud worked with the Office National d’Etudes et de Recherche Aérospatiale in this proposal. Read more

As I sit here trying to figure out what exactly to make of the work from New York City-based artist John Hodany, I come across many elements which I’m sure resonate with the day-to-day life of all us city folk. Sushi, yup, had that for dinner last night. Alarm clock, a few hours ago (hit snooze three times). Locks, always. On everything. Pigeons, oh my. It’s all so familiar but ultimately pieced together in a way as to make it feel rather disorientating. That about sums up a typical day in the city, no?
DM Stith recently signed to Asthmatic Kitty, the same label as Sufjan Stevens, and has a new EP out this week titled Curtain Speech, featuring contributions from Shara Worden (My Brightest Diamond), Rafter, Sebastian Krueger and the string quartet Osso. Think Animal Collective and Grizzly Bear meets Arthur Russell. We got the rundown from him on his eight favourite songs right now and he kicked off with The Shangri-Las’ Out In The Streets [listen below]: ‘1:22 – 1:43 is a miracle. I’ve never been so obsessed with twenty seconds of high-hat and high school girl shrieks: it’s a raging teenage fantasy that all the composition notebooks in all the lockers of 1965 couldn’t write better. This song — More Childish Than In A Long Time — from Swedish teenage twins Taxi Taxi! just burst into my headphones like the first welcome glare of a mid-morning sunshine, stinging my ears wickedly with its coarse, repetitive beauty. The forlorn, introspective lyrics and melody tease and shimmer, sending a fleeting and not-so-subtle tap on the shoulder to hit repeat, repeat, and soak it all up again.

Scanners’ new single Salvation
I love this track by London based rock group, Scanners, which is off their latest album, Submarine. Having toured with acts such as The Horrors, The Wedding Present, The Charlatans, Electric Six, and Juliette & The Licks, Scanners could well blow up in 2010. Figuratively speaking, not literally. No, that wouldn’t be fun.
Italian-born, New York City-based photographer Paolo Ventura creates fairy-tale like pictures out of amazingly constructed, miniature dioramas that almost trick the eye into thinking he’s a tilt-shift photographer. Read more
