Miami’s Common Machine media collective
Common Machine is a hot new media collective of artists, editors, filmmakers, photographers and producers. Based in Miami, with key collaborators in New York, the studio is headed by Brett O’Bourke, an award-winning journalist turned documentary producer who has since focused on producing web-based niche entertainment for corporate clients. Several Common Machine projects will be hitting the internets in the coming months, including a series of videos for a classic clothing retailer looking to rebrand, videos for several big name architects, to be released just before Art Basel Miami Beach, and the second installment of the video series it is producing for Lost At E Minor, the first of which — a profile on marionette maker, Pablo Cano — is above.
Tiana Markova’s fascinating fly-on-the-wall account of a day in the life of a high class prostitute, Jenna, is tastefully done yet provocatively revealing. Jenna’s captions provide the detail to accompany each shot. Of the photo above, she says: ‘Unpacking at the hotel in Miami. I couldn’t wait to take off my clothes and walk around naked! I hate winter almost more than anything’. Read more

Crimea X is the coming together of two offbeat, disparate characters, DJ Rocca (Ajello, Super Sonic Lovers, Maffia Sound System) and Jukka Reverberi from 90s Italian glam cult rockers, Giardini di Mirò, who have often have been compared with the sound of Mogwai, Arab Strap, and Godspeed You! Black Emperor. We asked them about their favourite music and they started with The Smiths song, Ask [listen below] ‘I saw them playing live on Italian TV. Portraiture and realism have always been my cup-of-tea, so to speak. I love realism in artwork. Stephen Earl Rogers is a young British artist who works in realism and is becoming well known for his portraits. He has a unique way of capturing a person’s character and his works are technically stunning with just the right level of realism whilst not trying to be photographic. He has exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery in London, amongst other places.
Swedish city Gothenburg faces a challenge comparable in size with the industrial revolution: to become a sustainable city. The Kjellgren Kaminsky architectural firm, in collaboration with a team of local volunteers, have created a vision for a sustainable Gothenburg in fifty years time. Read more

Sydney indie heroes (in the nicest possible way), The Paper Scissors (TPS to those that know the secret handshake) have made a video for their new single, The Bandit. And it’s good. Damn good.
It goes without saying that Hip Hop has taken a few very low hits in the past decade. Thanks to the likes of 50 Cent and company, it accounts for around 40% of all music sold in America. It’s a huge industry. So where does that leave Hip Hop artists doing something a bit different? Lord T and Eloise wear wacky outfits, make crazy music and bring a whole lot of fun back into Hip Hop. What’s more, they’ve started a new genre called ‘Aristocrunk’. Watch out!
