Design / Mark Mothersbaugh’s wallpaper pesigns
Mark Mothersbough, jack of all trades, most famous as frontman of iconic 80s band Devo, has recently started designing wallpaper and rugs, which are available from Walteria Living. Mothersbough’s designs range from expectedly quirky and off-kilter to surprisingly understated and tasteful — after all, he does compose music for commercials and kids’ shows these days.

Matt Van Schie ups the Bush Tetras
Says Van She bassist and vocalist Matt Van Schie about the Bush Tetras track — Too Many Creeps — from 1982: ‘I LOOOVE this tune. It opens with a perfect snare roll, and then the counter bass and guitar rhythms make it so cool. The lyrics are even more valid today. They’re one of my favourite bands of all time, and so many people try to do what they did for real. What a time! I wish I was born back then in New York, hanging out with these kids. Ahhhh!!’
The Alan Parsons Project’s Eye in the Sky
It sounds like a cliche to say it, but they just don’t write em’ like they used to: the soulful melodies, the crisp acoustics ringing out across murky lyrical lines. The Alan Parsons Project was an experiment in creating perfect, somewhat sinister, pop. With Eye in the Sky they succeeded, then added in an extra layer of prog-rock for good measure.

Pascual Sisto’s Last Breath in Alaska: Found Object
Conceptual artist Pascual Sisto stumbled across a Google Maps street view of Minnie Street in Fairbanks California that was obscured by a plastic bag. He has the view preserved on his site in case Google decides to re-photograph the intersection.
Stretchheads were a great, spazzy punk band from Erskine just outside of Glasgow. They were a group of merry pranksters for the nuclear age, crunching out frantic, sproingy squall with a demented sense of humor, predating the Boredoms and transcending the spikes-and-leather punk scene that had begun to wear out its welcome in the UK in the late 80s.

I was just recently introduced to the work of artist Misaki Kawai. I must say that my interest in her work has since become something of a creative obsession. Her trippy, child-like figures and animals, painted in the most expressive, perfectly satisfying candy colored hues, are more than enough to send me running for the bag of jelly beans and jolly ranchers hidden in my cupboard.
