Santogold

Santogold is simply the hottest thing around right now. We know this because we have her new self-titled album on constant rotation in our office. Which begs the question: how many spins can a CD take? We have two copies of the album to give away to randomly selected Lost At E Minor subscribers. To be in with a chance of winning, simply be a Lost At E Minor subscriber and leave a message under this post saying ‘Santogold is the only damn gold’, or words to that effect. We’ll announce the winners on Tuesday morning New York time. For a teaser of what you’re in store for, check out their track, Your Voice.

Oneida

I am so happy that Brooklyn rock band Oneida is still making great music. They have a new album, Absolute II, coming out soon and I can’t wait to hear it.

Gold Panda’s Snow and Taxis

Gold Panda’s new album on the Ghostly International label — Lucky Shiner — is a daring blend of glitchy and deep electro, as reflected in this single, Snow and Taxis.

Further: the new album from the Chemical Brothers

Further, the seventh studio album from the Chemical Brothers, marks the return to the classic, elegant hooks that set the earlier Chemical Brothers’ albums apart. Further brims with epic tracks that transport you to those great days which turned into epic nights. For me, that’s long, unplanned London summer days. This is an album for close listening and reckless dancing.

Star Wars Uncut: a fully crowdsourced version of Episode IV

The project of creative technologist, Casey Pugh, this full length version of the George Lucas masterpiece was created from multiple 15 second segments recreated from the original movie and submitted by thousands of Star Wars fans, which were then spliced together by editor Aaron Valdez to form the final product. Genius, as both a commentary on contemporary pop culture trends (there are references to LEGO, stop motion, memes and the like) and on the power of tapping your audience for quality material.

Filmmaker creates LEGO stop motion to propose to girlfriend

Now, this is one for the ages: back in 2010, Atlanta film-maker Walter Thompson created a jaw-dropping LEGO stop motion to propose to Nealey Dozier, his girlfriend of four years. The video took 22 hours of shooting and some 2,600 pictures to splice together, a small sacrifice to pay for years of happiness together. Right? Right! Oh, and she said yes. Bonus.

Actually, the ‘spins of a cd’ thing depends to how good the cd is. If it is, say, santogold, and you love it, it will inevitably burn out within two weeks. However, if it is the joke ‘best ever county-rap superhits of the sixities CD”, that your friend gave you for your birthday, you can rest assured that it will last for thousands, nay, millions of repetitions

OMG I love BMD. When I first saw the work of BMD I almost crashed my car. After moving to Auckland from Melbourne, I had thought my days of seeing kick arse street art were over. How wrong I was! BMD is one of a number of very talented folks painting on the streets of New Zealand. Also check out Seekayem and Flox. Read more

There was a time, many moons ago, when I would only listen to bands off New Zealand’s Flying Nun label. Yup, I would strap myself into a comfy chair, put my headphones on and, armed with a chunk of chocolate coated Peanut Slab and a can of L&P, soak up album after album of wonderfully self-indulgent low-fi melancholy. I went to a Isol/Zypce concert in Buenos Aires last week and fell in love with their sound. This experimental singer-songwriter brother and sister duo proves that Argentinean music is not just about Tango. Though, of course, I love Tango, too!

Cheese and Burger a great site to check out, with about 30 different burger options. Here you can find a selection of States with different burger recipes from each, along with a voiceover of a man who sounds like Mike Buffer. Fun.

If you ever happen to find yourself riding across the mid-west on horseback with an iPod jangling about in your holster, be sure to let Calexico soundtrack the experience. They’re cleverly fusing a range of genres, mixing some good old country with US indie, a bit of jazz and even, in 2003’s Feast of Wire, some smatterings of electronica. Lead singer Joey Burns gives a healthy amount of cowboy twang and the soaring orchestral background and sweet country guitar licks add a real atmosphere to the music.

Listen to the Calexico song, Convict Pool.
