DAM: Israeli hip-hop
DAM are a hip-hop trio of ethnically Arab Israelis from the ghetto of Lod, between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. Their eclectic and energetic style draws from the usual suspects of American MCs as much as it does from French rap and traditional Arab music, and while their unabashed anti-Zionist call for Palestinian liberation may enrage many, they’re careful to not be anti-Semitic — they even rap in Hebrew on occasion, and have made an entirely Hebrew version of their hit Born Here — winning them many Jewish and Israeli fans and allies. Their show at Southpaw in Brooklyn recently was perhaps one of the most hard-hitting and politically rousing concerts in recent memory.

Awareness Raps: Amber Tamblyn tricks Tyrese Gibson
When I read this article about Amber Tamblyn tricking Tyrese via email into thinking she was Amber Rose, I had no idea who either Amber was. Now I know.
Drawings of animals by Maria Elina
It’s funny that as alienated as we are from animals in this modern world, people still feel compelled to draw them as if it were one of our core instincts. Argentine artist Maria Elina does excellent drawings of anthropomorphized animals. Excellent, I say. Trust me, I look at the internet all day. Read more
Surreal sculptures by Ben Wheele
Honestly, writing about art (and music, for that matter) is kind of an awful task because good art speaks for itself. Such is the case with Ben Wheele’s surreal sculptures and videos. I use the word ‘surreal’ to describe 90% of the art I like not because I’m a lazy writer, but because there’s really not much more to say, and I like surreal and grotesque shit. Read more

Portraiture and realism have always been my cup-of-tea, so to speak. I love realism in artwork. Stephen Earl Rogers is a young British artist who works in realism and is becoming well known for his portraits. He has a unique way of capturing a person’s character and his works are technically stunning with just the right level of realism whilst not trying to be photographic. He has exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery in London, amongst other places.
The work of artist Matt Leines is a perfect mash up of folk, ethnic and outsider art. It’s smart, colorful, graphic eye candy. In fact, there’s not one piece on his site I wouldn’t sell my hypothetical soul for.

When Arcade Fire won Album of the Year, a certain percentage of the population had their mindhole explode. This Tumblr page documents the feeling when Eminem and Lady Gaga miss out to some Canuck nobodies.
Given the amount of talent he has, it’s a mystery why German producer Pantha Du Prince not received more attention than he has. His minimal tech soundscapes are surprisingly melodic and moody, as reflected on his epic track, Asha, as good a starting point to the music of this German electro whiz as any.
I’m not a watch wearer, but if I was, then I’d be rocking the wickedly cool new range of Diesel timepieces. The Basel 2008 collection is a sparkling, futuristic, retrotastic anagram of style, character and precision — of the digital variety. My favorite? The 1980s-themed watch above, with its ‘silver metallic leather cuff’ and ‘reflective shine’. Read more
