Clara Kraetsch and Doreen
Clara Kraetsch and Doreen Schulz are the designers behind the hot Berlin design label C-Neeon, which hit hard onto the fashion radar after winning the Young Designers competition at the Hyeres Festival. The label is known for their graphic prints using geometric patterns and rich colors. Stocked in a few hip boutiques in Paris and Japan, the Berlin-based designers made it big worldwide after their Fall 08 show at Paris Fashion Week. Even the carpets designed by Kraetsch and Schulz projected a Mondrian style. For anyone into Neo-Bauhaus, this is for you!

Kill Pixie’s Supreme Beings in Berlin
My fellow Germans — or anyone willing to fly to Berlin — should go check out the solo exhibition Supreme Beings by emerging Aussie artist Kill Pixie (aka Mark Whalen). His latest series of geometric paintings are on display at Berlin’s Merry Karnowsky Gallery until December 19. I’m particularly intrigued by Kill Pixie’s use of candy colours coupled with his depiction of masked puppet-like characters set in celestial and futuristic scenes. Supreme Beings meticulously ‘questions the games people are forced to play, reinterprets the universal human struggle and what will be necessary for survival in the future of our world’.
The problem with building ice figures is that the damn things are always so determined to melt. These remarkable looking ice figures were created recently by the World Wildlife Fund to raise awareness about global warming. There were 1,000 figures all up, each of which melted throughout the day on the steps of the concert hall at Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin. Read more
Lycee Jean Moulin’s green roofs by Off Architecture
Paris-based design firm Off Architecture, in collaboration with Duncan Lewis Scape Architecture and Jeans Gincinto, is granting a gift for current and future students of the Lycee Jean Moulin in Revin, France. The Lycee, which will be completed sometime in 2012, is being constructed to sustainable standards, including being built with the flow of the hillside where it resides. The school’s blueprint is a single-floor construction with terraced floors moving up the hill. The roofs of each building is made to resembling the rolling landscape and is flooded with vegetation so that by air, the school nearly disappears. In what promises to be the first of many sustainable lycees in France, the bar is set extremely high.

Originally from Australia, Long Walk Home are now residing and making awesome music in Berlin. Their music is modern and alternative with a great guitarist and drummer and a touch of funky electro that makes the melodies soft and catchy.
Since 2000, Brooklyn-based indie band Longwave have been recording killer albums. Their most recent album — The Strangest Things — was released 2007 and won fans including The Strokes and The Vines. Hot, hot, hot.
Linda Farrow and House of Holland
It’s summer in New York, it’s sunny, and I’m bored of my everyday pair of sunnies. But who has the glasses for me? Designer Linda Farrow does! Her range has so many innovative designs, without the stripes on the lenses like the Kayne West glasses sold at every street vendor in the village. Linda Farrow has the most fabulous vintage shades, and the collaboration between her and House of Holland is a gem in a sea of sunnies.

I haven’t been this excited by a band in a long time. Florida’s Black Kids have crept under — and now over — the radar through a demo and some serious internet buzz from NME and Pitchfork. Not only are they ridiculously good, they’ve also offered their four-song demo — Wizard of Ahhh’s — for free on their MySpace page. Sweet.
Vague and painterly, the work of Brooklyn artist Ryan Rozowski is populated with anonymous crowds and objects that lead you to feel as if you might be eavesdropping, albeit from a good way back. It’s like peering through the tiniest crack in the wall. Read more
