Before my friends at Biggs & Featherbelle urged me to try their Muscle Soak, I’d never been a fan of baths. Their inventive mix of Ginger, Alfalfa, and woodsy essential oils took me somewhere else. The no-synthetics and body care company’s packaging is equally inventive.

Baltimore band Lands and Peoples
Driving through the idyllic Maryland countryside after a few hours swimming at the Pretty Boy Reservoir, we listened to Baltimore band Lands & Peoples. Their ethereal sound was abstract, yet harmonious enough to fit perfectly with our endorphin highs as the setting sun cast a golden glow over everything.

Lightning strikes three tallest buildings in Chicago
A recent system of storms blew through the entire Northeast, drenching parts of Delaware, New Jersey, Maryland, and Virginia, but failing to drop any moisture on heat-paralyzed Baltimore. Still, the massive lightning cloud that loomed just south of the city a couple days ago was amazing to look at. It was probably related to the same system that hit Chicago, simultaneously striking three of the tallest buildings there with lightning.

Another Dimension show riffs on The Twilight Zone
If you happen to find yourself in LA over the next few weeks, be sure to check out this amazing show at Gallery 1988, opening May 20. The show, aptly titled, Another Dimension, showcases 50 artists’ works based on the original Rod Serling TV masterpiece, The Twilight Zone. My piece, Like A Tiny Doll Cut From A Shell And Brought To Life, is based on the episode, Stopover In A Quiet Town, where a married couple wakes up in a dollhouse after a long night of partying, only to find they are captives, and new toys, for a giant alien little girl.
Hitting supermarket shelves everywhere soon, I just wrapped up a logo design and four illustrations for Hansen’s Beverage Co (parent company of Monster Energy) and their new line of all-natural iced teas. After hearing a year’s worth of speculation that this film might not see the light of day, the new Dave Eggers [McSweeney's] and Spike Jonze adaptation of Maurice Sendak’s vividly imaginative story Where The Wild Things Are is finally hitting the big screen. And I can’t wait! The subtle use of CGI on the faces makes the creatures even more eerily believable. Read more

I started reading a very funny book over the weekend by the English writer Toby Young called The Sound Of No Hands Clapping. Brilliant. Never has a title been so apt as Young bumbles his way through the fickle Hollywood movie industry. It’s an excellent study in human nature. Ten Masked Men are a British parody band that does death metal covers of famous pop songs by Ricky Martin, Christina Aguilera, Madonna, and many others. One of my favorites is their cover of Justin Timberlake’s ‘Cry Me a River’. It’s epic.

Driven by a wide spectrum of influences, the music of Brass Bed moves easily through an eclectic mix of genres: from alt-country ballads and progressive rock hooks, to sticky-sweet, heart-felt lyrics, and dissonant experimental freak-outs. As some wise folk have noted, it’s kinda like a cross between The Beach Boys and The Flaming Lips. Now, how could that be a bad thing?
