We asked New York-based photographer Mitchell Feinberg where he draws his inspiration from: ‘It can come from anywhere: a window display, a sculpture exhibit, even the basement of a hardware store. Sometimes I will have an old idea that takes many years to gel. Sometimes I’ll come up with something at the last minute. The Muse never tips her hat. As for still life photographs, Karl Blossfeldt’s plant studies, Steichen’s patterns for Stehli silks, and Mr. Penn’s still lifes stay with me, like old friends’. WE'RE THINKING

I owe my fascination with Susan Hiller to my girlfriend. We went to see the current retrospective of her work at the Tate Britain and PSI GIRLS blew my mind. It’s an incredible example of an artist’s awareness of their audience’s role within their own art. I don’t think this aesthetic is applied to music often enough. She perfectly subverts ‘pop culture’ by using video art as the medium.

Comedy troupe Summer of Tears edited itself into the classic ’80s movie Teen Wolf, starring Michael J. Fox, providing a new and gut-bustingly hilarious side-plot.

WE'RE TRAVELLING TO

What will they think of next? A hotel built into a tour bus? Oh wait, they’ve done that. Rotel has 26 capsule-sized sleeping areas for those hardy travellers game enough to sleep and drive.

It’s the final, sultry day of Barcelona’s experimental sound-fest, Sonar, and weary punters are gazing listlessly at an empty, smoke-filled stage. Before long, a vocalist, beatboxer and grand pianist stride on, and what follows is a startling and, at times, deeply melancholic cabaret-electronic hybrid, prompting jaws to drop and delighting the drowsy. Meet Khan of Finland: ‘I tell stories about my everyday life; they are songs about love, pain, party and spirituality. I would call it bionic blues’.
