It takes an alert photographer to capture no-frills, naturalistic images such as those by Brooklyn-based Youngna Park. There’s an honesty about her work that’s refreshing amid the highly-produced, big-budget styles and the overly-stylized hipster verite that abounds these days.
While Petra Cortright’s irreverent new media work that incorporates animated gifs and tacky web symbols and emoticons is generally amusing, her series Portraits II is particularly amazing, the digitally smeared images becoming beautiful still-lifes and haunting portraits that truly transcend their source photos. I’ve been stocking up early in preparation for winter, so this debut knitwear line by British label A Minute Silence has arrived with much convenience. The splendid and flamboyantly progressive unisex collection by designer duo Danny Sangra and Lynn Cockburn features wonderfully knitted cardigans, jumpers, socks and even blankets rich in conflicting colours and crazy patterns.
What a wonderfully grown up ethos of punk is to be found in the latest effort by New Zealand’s Stolen Girlfriends Club. I saw sequin, lace, leather, denim, tulle, rhinestone and what appeared to be heshen, breaking all the rules of taste but nevertheless making me very, very happy. Read more

I must be the only cat in Brooklyn not sporting any ink. Yup, the streets are lined with people rocking all manner of tattoos, some kitsch, some serious, some that probably should have stayed inside the mind of their creators. If I were to get some work done, I’d probably go to Yannou who takes a playful approach to the art of body re-styling. Read more

This amazing looking thing can be found wandering the streets of Shibuya Station in Tokyo, Japan, dishing up ample servings of Coca-Cola and gripping the city’s teenagers with a sudden fear of the future.
Oh, ok. The Church’s eerily translucent Under The Milky Way has just burst into my headphones like a thousand jolts of sweet pop lightening. It’s nice to know that wistful introspection is only ever but three chords and a melancholic chorus away.

WE'RE POSTING / SOME OF THE BEST
I live the upbeat, feel good tempo of the new single — A Hundred Hearts — from Philly group, The Swimmers. Off their latest album, People Are Soft, this song is a strangely fitting anthem for the blustery day outside.

Scanners’ new single Salvation
I love this track by London based rock group, Scanners, which is off their latest album, Submarine. Having toured with acts such as The Horrors, The Wedding Present, The Charlatans, Electric Six, and Juliette & The Licks, Scanners could well blow up in 2010. Figuratively speaking, not literally. No, that wouldn’t be fun.
