Björk has been a big inspiration to me since I was about 15. In my opinion she is the most important female figure in the art/entertainment world today. In her music she not only manages to bring across emotional ranges in the most unique and powerful way, but also transmits joy and liberation to the soul. In her visual creations she awakens spiritual memories within me.
I feel home whenever I enter Björks universe.
With this drawing I tried to bring across her childlike vulnerability that at the same time mirrors her infinite wisdom.

I created my tribute to Bjork, ( found above, titled “Bathing in Beauty” because I feel that when I hear Bjork’s music, I am bathing my soul in pure beauty. No one that I’ve ever heard moves me with not only her lyrics and music but with her pure passion that she has for our Gaia. Bjork inspires me to do more for myself by doing more for my planet. I sense an innocence in Bjork that nothing could ever touch and it shines through everything she does. She is the essence found only in beauty.

LeSpace said | 23 April, 2008

I love björk and how your voice draws emotional landscapes. My design was
Inspired by the cover of the disc Volta whose sculpture is very singular. I did this drawing during a class trying to see björk as a nymph of nature in the middle of animals!
Bjork is superCOOL! I love your Space Oddity…like Bowie!!!
Björk ROOOOOCCCCKKKKSSS!!!!!
Smacks!

my bjork tribute stems from a dream i had where i was in iceland in an igloo with bjork. she was wearing a parka and we were sitting around a fire. she glanced over at me and i smiled and she smiled back, ever since then i’ve felt a strong connection to her music. the background image is inside an igloo and i just added a layer of rose petals over it trying to encompass “all is full of love” also the picture i used of her is the same as a poster that i have in my room. my first time seeing bjork live was this past year at austin city limits music festival where during her set a speaker caught on fire.

Jason Coal said | 24 April, 2008

Wow! It’s awesome to see one of my paintings right up at the top like that!
“Let Off Some Steam” is acrylic on canvas, and painted in the wee hours of the morning whilst listening to Volta. (Its title is taken from Vetebrae by Vertebrae.)
I love the concept of the “Feminism Goddess Björk” statue, and decided I’d like to see it belching up neon colors!
Much like the album, Björk herself is always bubbling over with inspiration, and I wanted to portray that while giving the viewer an intense craving for citrus!

Through her music, Bjork has managed to teach me many things, and has lead me to acknowledge my relationships in beautiful ways – my relationships with people, with what it means to be human, with the ancestors and primal past, with nature, with technology, with the future, and with the sacred pagan, the mysterious, and even the erotic, all at once. She has taught me to see the immense beauty of the miniscule as well, and the insights I have gained through her music have given me courage to be my true self.

For my image, I took inspiration from the song “Desired Constellation” from Medulla. I utilized heavily modified found and scanned images including: ice, an aurora, stars, Bjork’s talisman tattoo, and rune stones which I bought from a little shop in Edinburgh, Scotland called Unfamiliar.

I will try to write a comment about the Reason , why I created my tribute, like I created, and I will try to describe it Best I can, although my English is not so excellent. I am from Slovakia, state that is smaller than all Island and also smaller than Poland, which is our adjoining state. And I really wish to see her sometimes live… Anyway, we have many fans of she here, and I am one of those. I like her music so much, because the way she feel some emotions and rhythm with some connection to nature and earth. Her music is also very inspirational and really unique and eclectic. Nothing sound like what she made with musicians she cooperate. And also every album is very different and surprising. Some albums like Homogenic, than Medulla, but also more electronic Post are my favorite and that eclecticism in it inspired my to create the vision of her like in some mirror and fragmented in very small bits… but still hold together. Like her magical and beautiful music… Dont know what to say more.

I love all of them. But my vote goes to the bottom drawing of Bjork in colored pencil. The colors are gorgeous, and I think it really has a unique expression. Beautiful!

doni said | 25 April, 2008

Yeah…mine is actually a final project that I had to do once for a graphic design class that I took. So I actually made it a few years ago. After submitting, I too realized how much I could’ve/should’ve changed. Bugger. Oh well.

The two Volta ones are really good, but this was supposed to be a tribute to Bjork; not just a tribute to Volta…?

Bathing in beauty is perfect….love it shell

Patrick said | 25 April, 2008

Great! The last one from Doris is perfect!

LeSpace said | 25 April, 2008

Ahhh … the only reminding Jason: my work is not only a sketch … I do not know if you understand but it is a digital collage!
not despise the work of a graphic designer just because you paint pictures of art … OHHHHHH…THE ARTIST!!!!
smacks!
I’m GRAPHIC DESIGNERRRRRRR!!!!

chris said | 25 April, 2008

not only do I think that the bottom one is the best, it looks like talent was employed, I am disappointed in the others because all except the bottom picture looks like pictures anyone could do with a computer program. The bottom one took artistic skill, and time was obviously taken.

doni said | 26 April, 2008

Chris — I know what you’re saying, but digital art takes skill and time too. I spent hours and hours on mine actually, getting all the images scanned, collected, edited, and then arranged and incorporated how I wanted them. Whether it’s traditional art forms, or digital, it all takes talent and hours of work to produce something nice.

LeSpace said | 26 April, 2008

Yes Doniiiiii!!! I’m with Youuuuuu!!!!

Well done to everyone! Hopefully I’ll be able to vote/join in on the next one!
