Denver-based artist Max Kauffman has been productive, despite the finger numbing winter weather. In the last couple of months, he’s taken part in the successful group show, West vs. Middle (worth leaving the heater for, but be quick, it ends in February) and produced dreamy new watercolor and gouache pieces for his solo show, Ghosts of Industry.
I was never a big fan of Barbie, but I would travel to Shanghai just to visit this mind-blowing castle for Barbie dolls. Read more
Ed Janssen is famed in Melbourne for his jewellery designs, sold through cult Morrissey-friendly label This Charming Man. ‘The Knuckle Sandwich’ charm necklace (two pieces of bread on either side of a tiny set of brass knuckles, as pictured above) exudes an oddly amusing menace. More recently ‘The Bear Trap’ has been dangling from every second neck, wiping out hope for Melbourne’s unsuspecting tiny forest animals. Janssen is about to launch a new range inspired by the iconography of various secret societies. Music isn’t necessarily a serious venture. It’s almost funny when you find some you know will grate to dust the stiff upper lipped critics of the world. Every now and then I like the type of sound that hops around the edge of your ears without working its way into your brain and messing up the seratonin levels. And Californian 16-piece tropical-ska-pop group, Still Flyin’, do just that for me. It’s a good laugh, quite catchy, and an awesome live experience so I’m told: especially with the sun out, a can of cider in your hand and a bunch of grinning faces skanking around you.

Innovative and edgy? Yes, sirree. My favorite part is the bright blue nail polish in the first photo. I didn’t like the inattention to detail in the tiger outfit, I mean who do I have to kill to get a more interesting hair piece or some shoes that aren’t 5 minutes ago?
