Time may change us, but you can’t trace time
Well, as you can see, we have a new look. After much sweat and tears, and not neccessarily in that order, we unveiled the shiny new design on Monday and we hope you like what you see. Lost At E Minor is now heavily interactive. You’ll see a You’re Doing tab, which are short summaries of your latest fun discoveries or activities. Please send some through! We’d love to hear what you’re into. If you’ve got some art or music to share, tell us about it and we’ll look to publish it. Or if you’d just like to talk amongst yourself, that’s cool too. Oh, and pssst [insert sneaky whispering sound], we also have a new online store, stocking some of the goodies we feature on the site. Phew! Have an explore of the new look site, and let us know what you think.

New site features on Lost At E Minor
Evolution. Where would we be without it? I mean seriously. Probably still hunting for flesh amongst the wreckage of a giant Mammoth. We want to join in on the fun, so we’re evolving too with the addition of a few new site features to help you get more bang for your time. First up, we have a new DRM free music download section in the third column of the site where we post daily MP3s for free download that have been cleared and provided to us by the record labels and band management companies that we work with. There’s a stack of cool tunes there, included amongst them new releases by Alela Diane, Bon Iver, Fujiya & Miyagi, and Jamie Lidell. We update this section regularly, so keep checking in and fattening up your music collection in the process. You can now also scroll through all posts in each category simply by clicking on the orange arrow in the top right-hand corner of the images. So if you click on the arrow on this post, for instance, you’ll be able to scroll through all the websites that we’ve covered on the site. And so on across all the categories on the homepage. This is an easy way for you to navigate through our archives. While you’re at it, check out our forum [under the heading Discuss], which is open for chit-chat amongt Lost At E Minor readers, and our Shop, where you can make all your Christmas purchases. Aw, c’mon! We know your mum secretly wants that Young Lovers t-shirt.
Online store Volksfaden (literally translated as the ‘people’s threads’) was borne from a love of textiles, fabrics, print and pattern. The website itself is also a testament to good design, with the application of fabric designs to vintage photos in particular making for enjoyable viewing. Volksfaden is also an incubator for great designers, nurturing a creative community and making contemporary fabrics more accessible. [also check out the new Lost At E Minor online store]

I love the new design of your site. It not only has great SEO capabilities, but even more so, it’s fun to spend a ton of time on… thank you for the great layout, new interactive features and, well, for simply rockin’ my world. Hey, you’re featured on Design Is Kinky, too! Sweet!

What a love affair I am having with the flat as a pancake paintings of artist Ann Toebbe! Foreground, middleground, background — none of it makes a difference to Toebbe, who steamrolls over all of it to create the most unbelievably enticing abstractions. Read more
It’s hard not to sigh at another vector face or skull and diamond combo. I’m guilty of skull overindulgence myself. But Six Letter Word — aka illustrator, Diogo Potes — balances skulls with other macabre themes to create art that actually looks fresh and interesting. Read more
It turns out that the Internet was invented for cute animals as much as it was for porn. All these four-legged nobodies suddenly have our attention, and all they have to do is sneeze or fall asleep or act like they’re talking for us to fawn all over them. Heeding the growing chorus of people calling for these furry hacks to be cut back down to size, Fuck You Penguin aims to keep the egos of goats, puffins, moose, and pretty much every adorable creature on earth in check.
I’ve been a big fan of Babak Radboy’s designs for a while now. I love how complex and time consuming some of his pieces look and how fresh and original they are.
This interview with James Lavelle gives a fascinating window into the making of the latest UNKLE opus, End Titles, Stories for Film.
As a child, I took piano exams in over-sized white rooms, on baby grand pianos that felt unfamiliar and echoed strangely as someone across the room observed me in silence. It felt clinical, intimidating and completely devoid of warmth. Last week, I started noticing upright pianos, some painted haphazardly, others respectfully untouched plonked in the most unlikely places throughout Sydney. There was one on the edge of the baby pool at the local swimming pool, with a young girl in a rainbow striped dress tapping out a happy but disjointed melody; another shaded under a tree at the park on the way home. Setting Sun’s cover of Tom Petty’s You Got Lucky was recently released as part of Buffet Libre DJ’s compilation CD, Rewind 2. Says frontman, Gary Levitt, of their version on the song: ‘We got back from our European tour on Christmas Eve with a December 27th deadline for the track looming. It was finally started on December 26th and then sent off completed the next day. It was a great exercise in having to let some things go. That’s twenty-four hours out the door complete, old school style. That’s how records used to be made. Motown, baby, MOTOWN!’ We have the song for free download in our Music Download section [psst, it's in the third column of the site]

Forget battery powered vehicles. Cars made from ice are the future of transportation: no pollution, no honking horns, no painful rap music blasting out of souped up stereos. And if they melt, they melt. You just swim the rest of the way down the slipstream.
