Time may change us, but you can’t trace time
Well, as you can see, we have a new look. After much sweat and tears, and not neccessarily in that order, we unveiled the shiny new design on Monday and we hope you like what you see. Lost At E Minor is now heavily interactive. You’ll see a You’re Doing tab, which are short summaries of your latest fun discoveries or activities. Please send some through! We’d love to hear what you’re into. If you’ve got some art or music to share, tell us about it and we’ll look to publish it. Or if you’d just like to talk amongst yourself, that’s cool too. Oh, and pssst [insert sneaky whispering sound], we also have a new online store, stocking some of the goodies we feature on the site. Phew! Have an explore of the new look site, and let us know what you think.

New site features on Lost At E Minor
Evolution. Where would we be without it? I mean seriously. Probably still hunting for flesh amongst the wreckage of a giant Mammoth. We want to join in on the fun, so we’re evolving too with the addition of a few new site features to help you get more bang for your time. First up, we have a new DRM free music download section in the third column of the site where we post daily MP3s for free download that have been cleared and provided to us by the record labels and band management companies that we work with. There’s a stack of cool tunes there, included amongst them new releases by Alela Diane, Bon Iver, Fujiya & Miyagi, and Jamie Lidell. We update this section regularly, so keep checking in and fattening up your music collection in the process. You can now also scroll through all posts in each category simply by clicking on the orange arrow in the top right-hand corner of the images. So if you click on the arrow on this post, for instance, you’ll be able to scroll through all the websites that we’ve covered on the site. And so on across all the categories on the homepage. This is an easy way for you to navigate through our archives. While you’re at it, check out our forum [under the heading Discuss], which is open for chit-chat amongt Lost At E Minor readers, and our Shop, where you can make all your Christmas purchases. Aw, c’mon! We know your mum secretly wants that Young Lovers t-shirt.
Online store Volksfaden (literally translated as the ‘people’s threads’) was borne from a love of textiles, fabrics, print and pattern. The website itself is also a testament to good design, with the application of fabric designs to vintage photos in particular making for enjoyable viewing. Volksfaden is also an incubator for great designers, nurturing a creative community and making contemporary fabrics more accessible. [also check out the new Lost At E Minor online store]

Crimea X is the coming together of two offbeat, disparate characters, DJ Rocca (Ajello, Super Sonic Lovers, Maffia Sound System) and Jukka Reverberi from 90s Italian glam cult rockers, Giardini di Mirò, who have often have been compared with the sound of Mogwai, Arab Strap, and Godspeed You! Black Emperor. We asked them about their favourite music and they started with The Smiths song, Ask [listen below] ‘I saw them playing live on Italian TV. It was during the 80s when I was extremely young, and I’ve never stopped listening to this song’. Read the rest of Crimea X’s Secret Playlist.

I love the curated selection of abandoned swimming pool photos on Feature Shoot today, featuring work by Carlo Van de Roer and Albert Jodar, amongst others.

I love the new design of your site. It not only has great SEO capabilities, but even more so, it’s fun to spend a ton of time on… thank you for the great layout, new interactive features and, well, for simply rockin’ my world. Hey, you’re featured on Design Is Kinky, too! Sweet!
HAVE YOUR SAY
I’ve long been a fan of Brooklyn artist Katy Horan. With a folksy old west, native american aesthetic, Horan creates paintings rich with narrative, like old campfire stories, come to life. Having recently opened her first solo show at the Anno Domini Gallery in San Jose, Horan has created a haunting new body of work filled with abstract lacy patterns and narratives that will most definitely hit your storytime sweet spot.
The Loveless Cafe, a little oasis on the outskirts of Nashville, is like a refuge for the disenfranchised, serving up good ol’ southern cooking to a legion of America’s finest. Read more
Cast from actual Keys, these unisex rings by young New York-based designer Kiel Mead are a fun way to celebrate an old car or an apartment. They come in Sterling Silver and we have them for sale through the Lost At E Minor online shop.
There’s been an interesting trend recently in print and advertising work in particular away from the perfect symmetry and airbrushed cleanliness of vector art and back towards a looser form of hand-drawn illustration. I see it everywhere, from the middle pages of highbrow pop culture publications to the style sections of local broadsheets. And yet, it’s unexpected, especially so soon after the wave of vector art which swamped the print world just a few years back. Read more

Having originally sprung from the Shaky Isles (otherwise known as New Zealand), I can appreciate the humour in the New Zealand cartoon series, Bro Town, the first homegrown animated series to screen during local prime time. It’s simply brilliant, a real play on the ‘thuck’ accent and small town ways of our Kiwi brethren.
No Age are doing something different to the mass of noise-laden, guitar-drum duos canvasing the lo-fi airwaves at the moment. I’m just not sure quite what. Their album, Nouns, is receiving top-rate reviews after sell-out crowds after screaming, obsessive fans. The music is simply massive: a vast landscape of heat haze, somehow both tranquil and manic, punctuated by singer Dean Sprouts backdrop of barely intelligible vocals and Randall’s distorted, archaic sounding drums.
WE'RE POSTING / SOME OF THE BEST

I live the upbeat, feel good tempo of the new single — A Hundred Hearts — from Philly group, The Swimmers. Off their latest album, People Are Soft, this song is a strangely fitting anthem for the blustery day outside.

Trip out with Sparrow Vs Sparrow’s retro illustrations, I love their aesthetic, color use and sense of humor. Read more
