Music / Cut Copy’s In Ghost Colours

It was late afternoon in Sydney on a rare sunny summer’s day when I pressed play on Cut Copy’s latest album, In Ghost Colours, and immediately felt like I was in the midst of an awesome chilled out holiday. Hooked from track one, with the pop perfection of Feel the Love, I spent the next hour nodding my head to the trans-electro tapestry of emotional highs and lows, all encompassed by a smooth steady beat that drives each song with a sense of reckless love. Fans of Cut Copy stand united: we have a winner.

The Presets’ Apocalypso

Dark and somewhat extraterrestrial, The Preset’s sophomore album Apocalypso has just landed on my desk and I’m beside myself. Starting off with the aptly titled Kicking and Screaming, the boys, true to form, dress their fans in space suits and rocket around the galaxy with techno pop anthems such as My People and If I know You. Just checked them out on iTunes (can’t use Big Pond here unfortch) Great stuff! They are offering one of the tracks free for a limited time. “So Haunted” is the best ELO homage I have heard.

I’ve heard a lot about these guys and finally got my hands on the album! Just love it! As an Australian living abroad, I always enjoy hearing about Aussie bands.

Yes, squeaky clean Miss Helena of wholesome blouse and values, I have not forgotten those childhood years spent patiently glued to the television waiting for you to call out my name through the magic ‘looking glass’ — that portal to ‘good’ children everywhere.
