Painter and animator Katy Dove seems to visualise the sliding, bold movements of what it is to be and to feel human. Dove paints in watercolour and scans her images into the computer, overlaying them with duplicated paper cutouts. Her mark making is elemental and accompanied often by her own composed soundtracks that make suggestion of the liminal space between dreaming and morning’s reality. Shape and colour are forged together in an elegant shifting of compositions and choreographies so that in the raw, romantic and fundamental, it is easy to feel we recognise her images and that the kaleidoscope she presents is our very own imagination.
