Our favourite online pooch supply boutique — Dogs Department — recently released items from their Spring-Summer 2008 range, and they’re as cheery and well made as we’ve come to expect from the Amsterdam-based company. Our particular weakness is for the ‘ultra warm and soft fleece turtle neck sweater’ which is ‘accented with silver embroidery and leash hole’. Hmmm, which discerning puppy wouldn’t want one of these? German illustrator Sophia Martineck’s own description of herself as ‘The Sophisticated Pencil Girl’ is actually rather fitting. Colored pencils were always one those materials the professors always tried to steer us illustrators away from, but Martineck has me rethinking all of that. I really enjoy her flat use of the pencils and the subtle texture they impart.

The Dutch, the beautiful Dutch, in terms of architecture anyway. Here they have led the way again with this reuse of an old crane dock. A new glass office building, with a climatic façade of double glazing, motorized louvers on the outside and full length windows on the inside, hovers above the old dock. Read more
Ok, so I’m wearing this sweater right now. How could I not. The damn thing shares the same name as me. Well, kinda. My parents threw in an ‘o’ into my name just to confuse the life out of people. But that’s a whole another story. The Zoltan is comfortable, soft, and colorful. It has ‘no fortune-telling capabilities’, but the ‘lightweight progressive color stripe scheme has an undeniably funky 70s vibe’. And it does. Yeeha. Now, where the hell is my bell bottoms and Grateful Dead vinyl?
San Fransisco-based artist Alexis MacKenzie must be patient. She has to be in order to create beautiful collages from the vintage books that she collects. There’s an amazing amount of detail in each piece. Elements are painstakingly transplanted from book to paper with scissors and glue. No Photoshop cut n’ pastes here.

Yat-Kha are a stunning Tuvan band that combines throatsinging and traditional folk music with straight-up rock. Despite the modern elements, the Moscow-based group still conjures the vast steppes and endless skies of the small Russian republic in southern Siberia.
