Splitting her time between the UK and her native Poland, Beata Szczecinska works under the name of Cityabyss and creates illustrations that are heavily influenced by the world of fashion, graphic arts, photography, design and modern cityscapes. Her works has been featured in publications such as Varoom Magazine, Computer Arts Magazine, Illusive 2 Book, Katalogue, Web Design Index, Castle Magazine, and Carpal Tunell Magazine, among others. H.R. Geiger has nothing on Polish painter Zdzislaw Bekinski. The late artist’s obsessively rendered and nightmarish visions draw as much from Bosch and the Renaissance as they do from the surrealists while still capturing modern notions of death and terror. Read more

Samantha Everton’s Vintage Dolls
Samantha Everton’s latest exhibition, Vintage Dolls, explores ‘history, race and culture through magic realism’. Of the series, Everton says: ‘I was inspired by the innocent act of children playing dress ups and the way they re-enact adult behaviour, concepts and themes, without preconceptions or judgement’. The show runs at the Dickerson Gallery, Melbourne, between March 4-22 and at the Dickerson Gallery in Sydney between April 1-19.

I’m really digging Los Angeles-based illustrator Jon Han’s textured, colourful, almost scientific work. I find it particularly refreshing how Han frequently eschews most of the physical detail within his tiny figures, which lends itself all the more to further enhancing the diagram like quality of his work.

Peter Nalitch is Russia’s answer to Manu Chao. His video for the song Guitar is a Borat-like jab at low-budget, post-Soviet awkwardness — absurd English lyrics, Eurotrash earnestness, bad wipes, and cheap subtitles. But its tongue-in-cheekness is quite apparent, and the song is disarmingly catchy and romantic.
