Beata Szczecinska
Splitting her time between the UK and her native Poland, Beata Szczecinska works under the name of Cityabyss and creates illustrations that are heavily influenced by the world of fashion, graphic arts, photography, design and modern cityscapes. Her works has been featured in publications such as Varoom Magazine, Computer Arts Magazine, Illusive 2 Book, Katalogue, Web Design Index, Castle Magazine, and Carpal Tunell Magazine, among others. From Shoreditch in London where works by the likes of Banksy, Invader and Sweet Toof live side-by-side – enlivening the streets with their subversive and eye catching design, to Berlin, where they’ve turned the notion of graffiti on its head by using jet sprays with stencils to clean parts of a dirty wall, producing a new piece of art. I’ve been a longtime fan of Jill Greenberg’s stunning and subtly manipulated photography for some time. Her incredible talent for accentuating her subject’s true personality, whether they be celebrities or animals, is uncanny. Unfortunately her latest work might find her in the midst of a lawsuit, but for now we can still enjoy these while photos they last. Read more
Monet and The Impressionists is on display at Sydney’s Art Gallery of New South Wales until January 26, 2009. Alive with bold brushstrokes and dappled colours, the exhibit features 58 masterpieces by Cezanne, Manet, Degas, Renoir, Pissarro and Monet himself, among many others that have never been shown in Australia. It was amazing to view some of the finest quality works that revolutionised modern painting and the way natural light is portrayed on canvas.
