Radio Citizen
I work in my studio at least ten hours a day, usually seven days a week. So a good collections of iTunes music is indispensable. I’m generally looking for an edgy sound that is stimulating and not distracting at the same time. Yes, I am picky. My recent favorite is the Radio Citizen album, Berlin Serengeti, a wonderfully creative and diverse electronica album which forms an ideal early evening to late night work soundtrack. I’m a fan of his albums, but nothing prepared me for his most recent musical contribution to the world: a private serenade to his girlfriend, actress Alexa Nikolas. The simplicity of this moment is what makes it so poignant: one man’s voice, his love, and the natural reverberation of their surroundings.
Hiding music all around the world
Bored of the too-easy point/click way we find new music, I decided to make my own songs harder and more interesting to get hold of. I spent a year hiding CDs with my music on in cities around the world (with a little help from friends). I filmed the whole thing, including the responses I got, and edited it to a song from my new EP, Realityicide.
How Max Zorn creates his tape-art works
We first told you about Max Zorn in July this year when his fresh tape-art works were just in Amsterdam. Tinkering with nothing more than an exacto knife, some packing tape and plastic sheets, it takes wrapping his work around street lamps to see the pieces in all their glory as the complex layers of slicing and shading formations take their full effect. Dear Japan art event in New York
Come out to a gallery in Soho, New York, on Saturday afternoon and purchase art for your home for a good cause. The one evening event Dear Japan has been organized by a group of Japanese artists who live in New York. It features 170 illustrators and fine artists, and all the works are $200 or under. It’s a small portion of what most of the participating artists would normally sell their work for. Of course, I am donating for this good cause, too. Read more

Three illustrators from vastly different backgrounds — Sam Weber (Canada), Yuko Shimizu (Japan), and Tomer Hanuka (Israel) — are meeting at the crossroads of a distinct American aesthetic to examine their new-found artistic voices through personal mythologies, broken narratives and remixed identities. Each of the illustrators featured as part of BLOW UP (running at New York’s Society of Illustrators until October 16) created new works to be shown for the first time in this exhibition. Read more

Portraiture and realism have always been my cup-of-tea, so to speak. I love realism in artwork. Stephen Earl Rogers is a young British artist who works in realism and is becoming well known for his portraits. He has a unique way of capturing a person’s character and his works are technically stunning with just the right level of realism whilst not trying to be photographic. He has exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery in London, amongst other places.
On-the-go Rave. I bought this thing last fall from a dude in Brooklyn, and our new album relies on its bass. Many of the melodies are better understood once run through the Prophet. I’m pretty happy with it, but I’ve got my eyes on a Jupiter 6 now. There’s always something missing.
