Monika Tywanek and Ingrid Verner are the Melbourne-based designers behind T-V’s boutique label. Their clothes are laidback and casual, but still excite you enough to encourage you get out of bed on Sunday night and head to the disco with your rollerskates hanging over your left shoulder. They are just so hip. T-V’s cutting edge and playful designs are based around the use of natural materials.

Super Human exhibition at Melbourne’s RMIT Gallery
Showcasing works by leading Australasian artists, the Super Human exhibition re-frames the Cartesian body within contemporary culture. Focusing on Cognition and Neurology (Mind), Augmentation and Biological Manipulation (Body) and Nanoscale Interventions (the Soul, the ‘not visible’), the exhibition exposes aspirations and fears about our bodies and their extraordinary functions. Melbourne illustrator Rik Lee creates images as if they were a delicate easter egg. Faces, animals, bikes — they’re all rendered with the same light touch, with some interesting juxtapositions with the pastel smeared throughout, like make-up after a night on the town.

Originally from Australia, Long Walk Home are now residing and making awesome music in Berlin. Their music is modern and alternative with a great guitarist and drummer and a touch of funky electro that makes the melodies soft and catchy.
Since 2000, Brooklyn-based indie band Longwave have been recording killer albums. Their most recent album — The Strangest Things — was released 2007 and won fans including The Strokes and The Vines. Hot, hot, hot.
Linda Farrow and House of Holland
It’s summer in New York, it’s sunny, and I’m bored of my everyday pair of sunnies. But who has the glasses for me? Designer Linda Farrow does! Her range has so many innovative designs, without the stripes on the lenses like the Kayne West glasses sold at every street vendor in the village. Linda Farrow has the most fabulous vintage shades, and the collaboration between her and House of Holland is a gem in a sea of sunnies.

The Nobody Was Thirsty project is a collaboration between Ivan Kane’s Café W as charity — water — and Australia’s own denim label, Nobody. The campaign aims to sell a signature, not-for-profit T-shirt, with all donations helping to fund the world’s water crisis. The sale of one T-shirt alone can provide two people in Africa with clean drinking water for twenty years, something the majority of us take for granted.
Here’s another commercial building, and no doubt a nice one too. But just another commercial building. Yet there is something different here and it’s in the materials used. The cladding is a fibre-reinforced polymer, or a FRP, and has a finish similar to that of a car. Read more
It’s official, I’m back into jewellery after detoxing from the 2001 chandelier earring craze. Aurélie Bidermann used to work at Sotheby’s New York in their Impressionist and Contemporary Art department but has been slowly raising though the ranks as one of the most innovative jewellery designers around today. Her website doesn’t showcase her fantastic Spring 09 pieces. Check out the accessory report on style.com for a good look at some of her new work.
I finally got my copy of Play Pen: New Children’s Book Illustration by Martin Salisbury in the mail today and was immediately taken by the gorgeous illustration on the cover. Marc Boutavant! I flipped to the pages featuring his work and I couldn’t be more smitten by his colorful, fantastically playful, and positively charming illustrations.
The New York Times recently posted a selection of Mad Magazine fold-ins from the past 40 years of the magazine’s history. The feature allows you to actually fold the images to reveal the decoded message and picture.
This awesome promo video for the Lost At E Minor site was created by our friends over at New York-based design studio, Lifelongfriendshipsociety. It’s all about looking into a black mirror and seeing the creative energy burst back out at you. We think it’s very cool and the first in what we hope will be a series of short videos exploring what it really means to be lost at e minor. Hit us up if you’d like to have a go at creating one.
I caught Austin band Watch Out For Rockets playing the other week at the Beauty Bar, a small smoky den on a bustling hipster strip. Although they hit the stage a few hours late, they still cranked out an awesome set of guitar-based power pop, though they left out my favorite track, Urgent Serpent Merchant (below).
