Erone

The goldest star goes to Erone, French painter-illustrator extraordinaire. His skewed, stylised portraits are composed of layers of patterns, bold lines, and warm colours. If you’re an investor, I recommend you buy this man.

Antoine Dode

The rough and frantic style of French graphic novelist Antoine Dode gives his panels an expressive and interestingly textured feel. Can’t wait to read hard copies of his work.

Maldo Nollimerg

The heavily political, provocative, and pornographic themes and images in French artist Maldo Nollimerg’s collages remind me of awesome punk album covers from the early 80s, but with a slightly more baroque quality to them. Read more

Photography by Lily Nance

The photography of Lily Nance engages the arresting vulnerability of youth in a way that only the perverse and loving reaction of the subject to its inquisitive observer really can.

Plumen

The tightly-wound compact fluorescent light bulbs we’ve welcomed into our homes have a little sister. Plumen is low-energy, yet she’s trendy, twisted and a designer’s dream. Not yet in production, you can see Plumen hanging alone in MOMA.

Sky Planter

Fancy a fern in the face? The Sky Planter will fulfill your greenest fantasies. It is designed to conserve water, save floor space and puzzle visitors. An internal reservoir system to feeds water directly to the roots, so no water evaporates or drips. And somehow the soil is ‘locked in’. Woo!

Jan Vormann

A brick of any other kind would look as sweet, believes artist Jan Vormann. She began filling crumbling walls with multi-coloured Lego bricks in Bocchignano, a little village close to Rome, and was then invited to continue her rainbow reparations in Tel Aviv and Yaffo. Beautiful appropriation or ugly sacrilege?

What intrigues me about Eroné’s work is his distorted perspectives in his illustrations which give a sense of longing and melancholy. I can’t stop myself from browsing each and every one of his paintings in his flickr page. Honestly, I’m completely blown away by his artwork.

Rarely is a film politically poignant as well as wonderfully written, acted and shot. The second feature from director Kimberly Peirce of Boys Don’t Cry was inspired by her brother, who joined the army, and was only possible after months of meticulous research. Read more

When Arcade Fire won Album of the Year, a certain percentage of the population had their mindhole explode. This Tumblr page documents the feeling when Eminem and Lady Gaga miss out to some Canuck nobodies.

I’m a big fan of Alex Turner’s side project, The Last Shadow Puppets. It’s just really good music. When I first got their record, I didn’t know if it was a re-issue or if it was brand new. It doesn’t sound like a jokey pastiche. It sounds sincere.

There’s a fun range of prints up on the Boo Ware site, a Sydney based t-shirt label that began selling at the legendary Paddington Markets in 2003. You can still find them there every Saturday morning. Their tees are ‘soft and comfortable with original, quirky prints’.
