More Than A Friend
It was good to get an update from our friends over at More Than A Friend: ‘We’re on the cover of the new Under Pressure Magazine out of Montreal’. For Issue 15’s theme of celebs and media, they created an image using a photoshoot, cartoon characters, and an original pattern for the tablecloth. The final image was created with ink, acrylic (airbrush) and oil on canvas, then scanned in and the pattern inserted. [see also the magazine cover work of Alex Trochut]

Eve and Eryn, two amazing Free Spirit Sphere tree houses, are located in Vancouver, Canada, high up in the canopy of the West Coast rainforest. They are, as their creators describe, ’suspended like pendants from a web of rope’ from the trees. This is a unique way of creating unobtrusive means of living amongst nature. Insulated and set up for one or two people to stay in, these spheres allow people to experience the ‘energy shift’ that occurs ‘once one breaks contact with the ground’. Read more
While a pastrami sandwich at Katz’s in NYC is a transcendent experience, its relatively high price, its enormous proportions, and the hassle of the lines and payment system of the establishment make it a rare treat. If only we all lived in Montreal, home of Schwartz’s, where they serve some of the best smoked meat (the Quebecois equivalent of pastrami) I’ve ever had for only $5.50 Canadian (about US$5) per sandwich or $10.95 and $11.95 for small and large plates respectively.

Crimea X is the coming together of two offbeat, disparate characters, DJ Rocca (Ajello, Super Sonic Lovers, Maffia Sound System) and Jukka Reverberi from 90s Italian glam cult rockers, Giardini di Mirò, who have often have been compared with the sound of Mogwai, Arab Strap, and Godspeed You! Philly indie rock group Dr Dog recently compiled a crackling Secret Playlist for us which included props for songs by Cass McCombs, Thunderclap Newman, and the new time rag star, A.A Bundy, about whose track, Vice Rag, keyboardist Zach Miller wrote: ‘Good enough to be a classic old timey melody, except with more contemporary lyrical vices added.
