Vice TV

Nowadays it seems that the best viewing is on the internet, not TV. Though Vice magazine tends to be mostly fashion and trendsetting, Vice TV happens to be worldy and informative. It’s mostly comprised of documentaries but incorporates artists as presenters and programmers. [see also the Portable Film Festival]

David Shrigley

I first came across David Shrigley‘s funny and disturbing postcards a little while back. More recently I discovered a book of his that looked like a record full of lyrics for songs entitled The Empty Sleeve. Cool! He’s since asked musicians to make songs from these lyrics for a new project called Worried Noodles. Read more

Underage rock scene

In the UK there is a thriving underage rock scene; bands of kids releasing 7-inch vinyl and being signed by labels. Recently there was an underage festival in London that perplexed the journalists because no-one over 18 was allowed in. How to review it? But 5,000 attended and it was a huge success.

The work of Chicago artist Nigel Evan Dennis is emphatically modern and sparse, with textures and clean geometric shapes dominating the frame. I get the feeling I could really relax and breathe deeply with one of these beautiful images hanging on the wall. Read more

The Smirnoff Nightlife Exchange Project involved fourteen countries around the world filling crates with the best of their local nightlife and exchanging their country’s crate with another. Charles-Édouard Jeanneret-Gris, or ‘Le Corbusier’ is considered by many to be the most influential architect of the twentieth century. His designs are responsible for urban structures around the world, from the grid-city of Chandigarh in India to London’s Barbican Centre, which is currently hosting an exhibition of his work. But to peg him as an architect overlooks an awe-inspiring body of work that also takes in art, literature and even a new system of measurement. With this display, the first serious UK solo exhibition of his work for twenty years, we can finally appreciate the scale of his contributions.

This has to be one of the best design websites going around. The greatest part of the website is how you can filter design by colour. Mix and match a couple of colours and BANG! It will show you all the designs that utilize them.

The indie, electronic pop duo Plastic Operator paired up whilst studying audio production at London’s Westminster University. In 2004, they released their first three track EP. Their music reminds me of bands like The Fashion, Crystal Castles and Cut Copy.

Do I like dogs? Yes. Do I like jumpers? Yes. Do I think WARMI’s jumpers with dogs on them are amazing? I sure do! The brand was created in 2008 by French-Colombian designer Sylvia Toth and all the clothes are hand knitted by women weavers of the villages of Tausa and Sutatausa in Colombia. Read more
