Thomas Barwick
Thomas Barwick is an illustrator and designer working from Cornwall in the UK who has recently published a book called Ratio-A pan Dimensional Film Guide. As he says, I put it out as a promotional project a portfolio with a twist. I decided to recreate a 1970′s film review magazine, but to invent all the films and draw all the film stills. It was a fun way to create original subjects to draw’. The book is available from Metrolpoli in Melbourne and in other specialist shops around the world. [see also Unfinished and Unpublished]

Issue 3 of Menagerie: an LP and full colour book
Menagerie is an ongoing series of compilations with books of illustrations. Issue three is an LP and full colour book, in a limited edition of 500 copies. Side A of the vinyl sees illustrators react to music and side B sees musicians reacting to artwork. The illustrators are Jim Stoten, Jake Blanchard, Simon Fowler and Adrianne Neal. Star Wars Uncut: a fully crowdsourced version of Episode IV
The project of creative technologist, Casey Pugh, this full length version of the George Lucas masterpiece was created from multiple 15 second segments recreated from the original movie and submitted by thousands of Star Wars fans, which were then spliced together by editor Aaron Valdez to form the final product. Genius, as both a commentary on contemporary pop culture trends (there are references to LEGO, stop motion, memes and the like) and on the power of tapping your audience for quality material.
Filmmaker creates LEGO stop motion to propose to girlfriend
Now, this is one for the ages: back in 2010, Atlanta film-maker Walter Thompson created a jaw-dropping LEGO stop motion to propose to Nealey Dozier, his girlfriend of four years. The video took 22 hours of shooting and some 2,600 pictures to splice together, a small sacrifice to pay for years of happiness together. Right? Right! Oh, and she said yes. Bonus.

The work of French Illustrator Chamo is every bit as fun as her name seems to imply. Employing a bright, candy colored, retro feel, Chamo’s illustrations come off feeling like the ultimate feel good joyride.
Films involving characters faced with an impossible choice never make easy viewing, an example being the Nick Cave Australian gem, The Proposition. A nightclub manager, played with understated power by Joaquin Phoenix, is the victim here, and you actually feel truly uncomfortable as his predicament unfolds. Set in the 1980s, We Own The Night shows a real nostalgia for that period — particularly in the costumes. Read more

In the wake of America’s historic presidential election, nearly two years of divisive campaigning, and eight years of a controversial administration, the nation is in desperate need of healing. Beloved Internet personality Ze Frank started From 58 to 42 with Love where contributors use their webcams to post messages reaching out to the side of the country that didn’t vote for their guy. It’s saccharine at times, and there are one or two borderline nasty posts from people that don’t seem completely onboard with the project’s objective. But overall, it’s pretty effective and moving. I’ll admit I needed a couple tissues while reading it.
