Improv Everywhere
by Public-theater, culture-bombing, flash-mob troupe Improv Everywhere — known for gags such as the ‘no pants’ subway ride, the fake U2 concert, and slow-motion shopping at Home Depot — recently deployed 200 ‘agents’ to Grand Central in New York City, where they all froze in place precisely at 2:30pm. The crowd stood frozen for exactly five minutes, just long enough to delight the perplex crowd, and just brief enough to avoid irritating Metro North employees.

It was initially set for a two-night run, limited only to it’s Kickstarter supporters. However, due to overwhelming interest, von Buhler added a Halloween show, and plans to add more dates and locations in the new year.
Style Wars: The Rise of Hip Hop and Graffiti Art in the 80s
New York City in the early 1980s saw the break out of hip hop and a whole new style of expression for urban youths. A big part of that was the rise of graffiti, where ‘bombing’ became its own art form. The documentary Style Wars takes a fascinating up close look at the players of the day, what they were up against, and how hip hop culture changed the face of the city.

I went to a Isol/Zypce concert in Buenos Aires last week and fell in love with their sound. This experimental singer-songwriter brother and sister duo proves that Argentinean music is not just about Tango. Though, of course, I love Tango, too!
San Francisco-based illustrator Luke Feldman has just had his first children’s book published, Chaff n’ Skaffs: Mai and the Lost Moskivvy, a collaboration with writer Amanda Chin. The book artfully tells the story of Mai, ‘a young girl who never ventured too far from her home. When a lost mosquito interrupts Mai’s sleep, her friend Chaff suggests they escort Moskivvy back home to a faraway land. So begins a courageous girl’s voyage into a fantastic world’, all communicated beautifully through Feldman’s colorful, dynamic and considered illustrations. Read more
Now this is fun. The aptly named The Kooks cover the equally as aptly named MGMT for Australian radio network, Triple J. The song, Kids, is about as upbeat as any minor key progression can get. We like.
