Huma Bhabha
Pakistani-born sculptor Huma Bhabha captures the destructive, but ultimately temporal nature of mankind with her totemic pieces built out of discarded and found materials. Her figurative work looks like Easter Island heads and other such ruins from forgotten civilizations.

Jon Rose playing Australian electric fences
I recently caught Australian violinist/sound artist Jon Rose at Red Room in Baltimore. He used a motion-sensitive rig to his bow to manipulate sounds on a laptop while he played along. It was a very intense set. Among many other endeavors, Rose has been working on the ongoing Fence Project where he ‘plays’ the wire fences scattered across his home country.

The development lists an impressive array of green designs, including living walls and a five-acre green roof, and effortlessly succeeds in that all important eco-feature of blending in with its surrounding environment. I don’t do yoga. I have nothing against it, but it just seems a little too new agey for me. However, if I do eventually try it, I’d like the instructor to put on Fabio Orsi’s moody, ambient, drone experiments. Using piano, guitar, percussion, field recordings, and various sampled elements, Orsi creates some beautiful, meditative pieces that, while undeniably fruity, are still weird enough to hold my interest.
