Album review: Black Keys — Attack & Release

I’ve been lucky enough to get hold of a copy of the new Black Keys album — Attack & Release — produced by Dangermouse. It’s not a huge step up from their previous work, but it’s certainly got buckets of soulful integrity that you just don’t hear on many records these days. After reading the press release, I get the feeling that making music in the Black Keys is something that is quite spontaneous and unpretentious. There are no neo-soul effects or unexpected Gorillaz-types effects plaguing the album. It’s just an epic blues rock album from one of the best exponents of it around.
