Ushahidi
Within days of the contested election results in Kenya that unleashed the current turmoil in the country, a website called Ushahidi, which combines on-the-ground reporting and Google Maps to give a real-time picture of what’s happening in the troubled African nation, launched with the help of a Kenyan NGO. The website allows Kenyans to report incidents as they happen via their mobile phones, and it also accepts donations from abroad that go directly to the victims of the upheaval.
